"The Macedonians Are Coming to Take Me Away, Oh No!"

“I assume that a lot of the people here,” Hillary  began, “and if you haven’t, I hope you will, read the declassified report by the intelligence community that came out in early January.”
“Seventeen agencies, all in agreement,” she explained, “which I know from my experience as a senator and a secretary of state is hard to get – they concluded with high confidence that the Russians ran an extensive information war campaign against my campaign to influence voters in the election.”
“They did it through paid advertising, we think,” she continued, “they did it through false news sites, they did it through these thousand agents, they did it through ‘machine learning,’ which you know kept spewing out this stuff over and over again, the algorithms that they developed.”

THE MACEDONIANS, ALGORITHMS , PUTIN, COMEY, COUNTER-INTEL, WIKILEAKS, CNN, WOMEN HATERS AND VEGANS GANGED UP ON HER
“Now, so that was the conclusion,” Clinton said. “And I think it’s fair to ask, how did that actually influence the campaign, and how did they know what messages to deliver? Who told them? Who were they coordinating with, or colluding with?”
“Because the Russians historically in the last couple of decades,” she added, “and then increasingly, you know, are launching cyber-attacks and they are stealing vast amounts of information and a lot of the information they’ve stolen, they’ve used for internal purposes to affect markets, to affect the intelligence services, et cetera.”

“So this was different because they went public,” Clinton continued, “and they were conveying this weaponized information and the content of it, and they were running, y’know there’s all these stories, about y’know, guys over in Macedonia who are running these fake news sites, and you know I’ve seen them now, and you sit there and it looks like you know sort of low level CNN operation, or a fake newspaper.”
“So the Russians, in my opinion and based on the intel and counter-intel people I talk to,” she concluded, “could not have known how best to weaponize that information unless they had been guided.”
“Guided by Americans,” her interviewer clarified.
“Guided by Americans and guided by people who had y’know, polling,” she agreed.
Clinton has been addressing the surprising loss of her campaign, but this appears to be the first time she’s alluded to the idea that associates of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials in their interference. Her reference to people in Macedonia had to do a Buzzfeed article outlining how foreign “fake news” entrepreneurs discovered they could cash in on ad revenue from writing salacious and false stories that were fed to American news consumers.
Clinton blamed misogyny for her loss at the tech conference, saying that many voters were simply not ready to accept a woman as a president, and also dismissed the email scandal as a “nothing burger.”

  6. Police: Teenager stops sexual assault by punching suspect in the genitals

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Police reports show a teenager punched her alleged attacker in the genitals to stop a sexual assault.
The Oklahoma City Police Department reports that on May 29 officers were contacted by a set of parents stating their 16-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted.

The parents told police that their daughter was friend with a girl and had asked to stay over at her residence in the 4100 block of S. Robinson. At some point during the night, several men arrived and began partying at the home. The two girls then went to a room and fell asleep.

Early the next morning, the victim's friend woke her up and stated she was going to the store. The friend also said that no one was in the home and she would lock the door behind her.

A few minutes later, the victim allegedly woke up to 20-year-old Andrews Rivera on top of her with his pants and underwear around his ankles. Police reports show Rivera was holding the girl down and began to sexually assault her. At some point, the teen punched Rivera in the testicles "like her brothers showed her how to do". The man then rolled off the bed and she ran out of the home.

Police were then notified and Rivera was later arrested on a complaint of rape by instrumentation.

  7. Mick Mulvaney: The day of the CBO 'has probably come and gone'

hite House Office of Management Director Mick Mulvaney on Wednesday opened fire on the Congressional Budget Office, asserting in an interview with the Washington Examiner that the day of the institution as an authoritative non-partisan arbiter of legislation "has probably come and gone."

Mulvaney, speaking in his office in the Old Executive Office Building, described the CBO's scoring of the House Republican healthcare bill as "absurd," arguing that it was a perfect example of why Congress should stop being so deferential to the group.

"At some point, you've got to ask yourself, has the day of the CBO come and gone?" Mulvaney said. "How much power do we give to the CBO under the 1974 Budget Act?
We're hearing now that the person in charge of the Affordable Health Care Act methodology is an alum of the Hillarycare program in the 1990s who was brought in by Democrats to score the ACA."

He continued, "We always talk about it as the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Given the authority that that has, is it really feasible to think of that as a nonpartisan organization?"

Mulvaney was referring to Holly Harvey, who has been the head of the CBO's health analysis division since 2009 and had served during the Clinton administration as a senior analyst in the office of the assistant secretary for planning and evaluation at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Mulvaney was particularly critical of the CBO's recent estimate that the House-passed healthcare bill would result in 23 million fewer people with health insurance. He argued that the CBO's model assumed that the mandate requiring individuals obtain coverage has a lot more influence on people's decisions than it does in real life.

"Did you see the methodology on that 23 million people getting kicked off their health insurance?" he said. "You recognize of course that they assume that people voluntarily get off of Medicaid? That's just not defensible.

It's almost as if they went into it and said, ‘Okay, we need this score to look bad. How do we do it?'"

    Hillary Clinton Speaks...Again

And, you know they lied when they said you know that I ignored the needs of the you know deplorables and blacks and you know other people. And you got to ask did the you know deplorables get taken in by my competitor's lies. They are you are fully aware are less educated so you know it's easy to see how they could be taken in.

But you know I think the real news here is the fake news which it looks like was you know coordinated with someone and I'll you know just let that hang out there and let the you know vast majority of people who aren't deplorable you know decide for themselves where they think they came from (sotto...Trump team).

But the biggest problem I had was you know the media, the right wing media and the alt-right media and you know the MSM which you know filled their stories with my actual quotes and you know repeatedly showed video of me looking foolish or awed by balloons or you know tired or you know looking like some dowdy schoolmarm from Hawaii or Bumfuck, Idaho. What bothers me most though you know is the fact that no one seemed to appreciate my compassion or the extent of it for the little guy including the deplorables who because of their lack of education and IQ can't really be blamed for their ill-advised votes. Oh yeah, and the electoral system in this country which denied me my rightful place as you know que...er...president even though I got many millions of votes more than my you know competitor.

  10. The vast right-wing conspiracy 2.0, Russia edition
    by W. James Antle III | Jun 1, 2017, 1:47 AM

Hillary Clinton did something more interesting Wednesday than blame others for her loss in last year's presidential election.

She has done that many times before, though her dig at the Democratic National Committee was a new and interesting twist.

Clinton publicly stitched together a comprehensive theory of how Russian interference into the 2016 campaign led to her defeat at the hands of President Trump.

That theory may prove to be conspiratorial nonsense or the dominant storyline of the Russia probe. But Clinton spelled it out more clearly and succinctly than ever before, laying it all out in the public eye.

Speaking at a California tech conference, Clinton said she tried to warn us about Russian collusion with the Trump campaign at the time.

"Like, oh, you know, there she goes, vast right-wing conspiracy, now it's a vast Russian conspiracy," she said. "Well, it turned out we were right, and we saw evidence of it."

This is the vast right-wing conspiracy 2.0, the Russian edition.

First, Clinton raised the real issue of cybersecurity threats coming from Russia. "Because the Russians historically in the last couple of decades and then increasingly, you know, are launching cyber attacks, and they are stealing vast amounts of information, and a lot of the information they've stolen they've used for internal purposes, to affect markets, to affect the intelligence services, etc.," she said.

But the Russians wouldn't have known how to undermine Clinton in front of a domestic political audience without American help, she said.

"[T] he Russians — in my opinion and based on the intel and the counterintel people I've talked to — could not have known how best to weaponize that information unless they had been guided," Clinton claimed. "Guided by Americans and guided by people who had polling and data information."

In the 1990s, the anti-Clinton conspiracy was funded by wealthy conservatives like Richard Mellon Scaife. This time around, she blames Robert and Rebekah Mercer.

    1. Clinton darkly suggested that this could be where Stephen Bannon and Kellyanne Conway come into the picture.

"And I think again, we better understand that the Mercers did not invest all that money just for their own amusement," she said. "We know they played in Brexit, and we know that they came to Jared Kushner and basically said, ‘We will marry our operation,' which was more as it's been described, psychographic, sentiment, a lot of harvesting of Facebook information, ‘We will marry that with the RNC on two conditions: You pick Steve Bannon, and you pick Kellyanne Conway. And then we're in.'"

"So Bannon, who'd been running the Breitbart operation, supplying a lot of the ... untrue, false stories," Clinton added. "So, they married content with delivery and data. And it was a potent combination."

Up until now, the premise of Russian interference stories has always been that the country was involved in hacking and perhaps leaking the emails of key Democratic leaders, such as Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, via WikiLeaks.

Clinton now sees a whole axis of evil from Moscow to the Mercers.

"I think the marriage of the domestic fake news operations, the domestic RNC Republican-allied data, you know, combined with the very effective capabilities that the Russians brought, you know, basically, the group running this was the GRU, which is the military intelligence arm of the Russian military, and they have a very sophisticated cyber operation," she said.

"In bed with WikiLeaks, in bed with Guccifer, in bed with DCLeaks, and you know, DCLeaks and Guccifer which were dropping a lot of this stuff on me, they haven't done anything since early January," Clinton continued. "So, I mean, their job was done. They got their job done.".....

The rest of the World will plod on with the treaty and wait for Trump's term to end.

Trump did not win any votes in congress. The only way for the Republicans to hold the House will be to establish a distance between them and Trump. A loss for Trump.

It will not have an immediate impact on alternate energy technology. All in all, it is a net loss, not a disaster but at a minimum, Trump will pay a political price and it may cost him his job.

Trump's offered two main reasons for doing it as far as I could seee...

    1. The Accord wasn't fair to the US. We were doing stuff and incurring costs that other countries weren't. In my opinion, that excuse is based on Trump's simplistic believe that all deal making is a zero-sum game, you either win or you lose, there isn't any middle ground. It all comes down to $ dollars and $ cents.

I don't think Trump has the intellectual range to understand there can be long term advantages as well as short term returns, that even if someone else appears to get a better deal it is still better to go through with the deal if it makes you better off than without the deal, and that an agreement can have both positive and negative aspects that are not reflected in the actual wording of the agreement.

    2. Because we signed the Accord, the world is laughing at us. This one I can only think was conjured up in the strange workings of Trump's mind, the mind of a man that has a pathological fear of being laughed at or ridiculed. Again, I get back to my diagnosis that he has a massive inferiority complex complicated by the fact that he is kinda inferior (stop it, I'm kidding. I'm a kidder. It's what I do). It probably comes form interaction with his father, Fred, who thought everyone he dealt with was a sucker.

My own opinion is that Trump has gone back on almost every campaign promise he has made. The ones he has tried to get through are being held up by Congress or the Courts. He wanted a win and he wanted to say he finally came through on one of his commitments. The effects of him cancelling this deal will not be felt immediately and so it was an easy way to make it look like he was actually accomplishing something rather than just spinning his wheels.

  22. Trump hails deals worth 'billions' with Vietnam

By Roberta Rampton and David Brunnstrom | WASHINGTON

U.S. President Donald Trump talked trade with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a White House visit on Wednesday and welcomed the signing of business deals worth billions of dollars and the jobs they would create.

The U.S. Commerce Department announced 13 new transactions with Vietnam worth $8 billion, including $3 billion worth of U.S.-produced content that would support more than 23,000 American jobs.

These include deals for General Electric Co (GE.N) worth $5.58 billion for power generation, aircraft engines and services, its largest-ever combined sale in Vietnam.

Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N) and its dealer in Vietnam also agreed to provide generator management technology for more than 100 generators in Vietnam, the company said.

"They (Vietnam) just made a very large order in the United States - and we appreciate that - for many billions of dollars, which means jobs for the United States and great, great equipment for Vietnam," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The Commerce Department estimate of the deals was considerably less than the $15 billion figure given by Phuc during a speech at the Heritage Foundation, adding that most of the total involved the import of U.S. equipment.

Communist Vietnam has gone from being a Cold War enemy to an important partner for the United States in the Asia-Pacific, where both countries share concerns about China's rising power.

Phuc told Trump the relationship had undergone "significant upheavals in history" but that the two countries were now "comprehensive partners."

Phuc's meeting with Trump makes him the first Southeast Asian leader to visit the White House under the new administration.

  32. Few Americans knew Nigel Farage’s name. But the flamboyant far-right British politician and radio host, a key architect of Britain’s vote to exit the European Union, took on an oddly Zelig-like ubiquity as Donald Trump captured first the Republican nomination and then the presidency.

Here was Farage, popping up at the 2016 GOP convention in Cleveland to deliver a speech. There again, at a Trump campaign rally in Mississippi in the dog-days of August.

Days after the election, he and the president-elect grinned together in front of a gilded elevator at Trump Tower. Soon after Trump took office and was set to dine with family members and associates at his namesake Washington hotel, Farage materialized again and wound up with a seat at the table.

  33. Professor Graham Allison at Harvard University mooted a solution to the North Korea conflict in the New York Times on May 30. Allison starts by scaring us with a high likelihood of war, about 75%, in similar conflicts between a major power and a smaller rising power in history.

    ...

The motto of Harvard is Veritas, Latin for “Truth.” The Chinese government methodically suppresses truth through disinformation and draconian restrictions on freedom of speech.

Harvard, per its motto, should take a far more principled stand against the authoritarianism that China, and especially Xi Jinping, is increasingly attempting to foist upon not only Asia, but the world. There can be no place for elision or appeasement.

  34. "We're so quick to label North Korea as 'forbidden', 'closed', 'crazy', 'suffering' - but I want to take away that barrier we've created, just for a minute, and shed light on North Korea at a human level," says 24-year-old Benjamin Griffin.

    ...

"This is a great example of how we understand North Korea. It's us and them, dark and light, good and evil. It's dark, it's unknown. We're given all these reductive cliches - a lens through which to look at the DPRK.

It's too simplistic - if the country is only 'evil', can it ever do anything good?

  35. EUROPE’S NEXT BIG WAR
Thousands of terrorists and thousands of soldiers.
    June 2, 2017 Daniel Greenfield

....But unlike Iraq or Syria, the Islamic insurgency is not an indigenous problem. The Islamic terrorist is not indigenous to America or Europe. He is a recent guest. He has been here for decades, not centuries. We can’t fix the tribal conflicts in Syria or Iraq, but we can interdict them through immigration reform.

Every effort to oppose President Trump’s travel pause is a vote for soldiers in the streets and car bombs every morning. It can only end with the wars that the left hated in Iraq and Afghanistan being fought in the cities where its activists, protesters and supporters live behind barbed wire and checkpoints.

Islamic terrorism is a war. The only way to stop that war is to stop migration from terror states today.

  37. Paris Accords and Kyoto Protocol Share Striking Similarities

Following the left’s meltdown over President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord, the discussion surrounding the saga echoes the same talking points surrounding the debate over the Kyoto Protocol in the early 2000s.

At the beginning of the Bush administration, President Bush pulled the United States out of the Kyoto Protocol for reasons similar to President Trump’s. Predictably, the world and the American left protested over the president’s decision to pursue U.S. economic growth.

Here are the top 3 similarities between the two deals:

China and India Got Great Deals

The Kyoto Protocol, negotiated in the 1990s, exempted China and India from their requirements. This was one of the main reasons the Bush administration cited for its withdrawal, according to The New York Times: “Mr. Bush said, with Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell at his side. ‘’Yet China was entirely exempted from the requirements of the Kyoto protocol. India and Germany are among the top emitters. Yet India was also exempt from Kyoto.’”

A congressional report found that participation from the Chinese and Indians in the Paris Accords was largely symbolic, calling it “political theater.” The Paris Accords would have imposed uneven and unfair economic restrictions on the west, compared with China. “China stands to gain from participation in the Paris Agreement by pushing the U.S. and EU to make economically costly emissions reductions,” Further, the report found that the Accords would make no meaningful impact on the carbon emissions of China and India, the world’s two most populous countries.

The International Community Criticized the U.S. for Leaving Both Treaties

When President Bush pulled the United States out of the Kyoto Protocol, the international community reacted swiftly and harshly. Italy’s Environment Minister Willer Bordon called the withdrawal “extremely grave.” The European Union’s Environment Commissioner at the time, Margot Wallstroem, discussed economic measures the global community could take to punish the United States for the withdrawal.

Similarly, world leaders attacked Trump after his decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Accords. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that he was “disappointed” in the president’s decision. “The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, had harsher words to share on Wednesday, informing members at a student conference that ‘Europe’s duty is to say … The Americans can’t just leave the climate protection agreement. Mr. Trump believes that because he doesn’t know the details,'” according to The Atlantic.

But the International Community Didn’t Live Up to Its Kyoto Standards

“Under the Kyoto protocol most developed nations – including Canada, Australia, Austria, Spain, Japan and others – never got close to reaching their individual target for cutting or slowing their emissions,” The Guardian reported in 2012.

The congressional report on the Paris Accords wrote: “Kyoto was legally binding and countries still failed to comply. Non-binding targets in the Paris Agreement will not produce any greater confidence that countries will comply.”

Despite the international community’s moral posturing on the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Accords, they failed to live up to emissions standards in an agreement that had included enforcement standards. How could the Paris Accords, a non-binding agreement, guarantee greater conformity?
