COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Will Trumpism Save Western Civilization? Next France?

After Trump Win, Parallel Path Is Seen for Marine Le Pen of France’s Far Right

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s far-right National Front party, spoke about the results of the American presidential election on Wednesday in Nanterre, near Paris.

HÉNIN-BEAUMONT, France — It was a moment of intense French patriotism on a sunny Friday, Armistice Day. A band blared “La Marseillaise,” the national anthem. Shouts of “Vive la France!” filled the chilly November air. And there, too, was Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Front party, beaming.

Before Donald J. Trump’s presidential victory in the United States this week, Ms. Le Pen was considered a disruptive political force but far from a true threat to become president herself when France votes next spring. Not anymore.
Since Wednesday, French news outlets, along with Ms. Le Pen’s mainstream political rivals, have been repeating the same thing: It could happen here.

And Ms. Le Pen is not alone. From the Balkans to the Netherlands, politicians on the far right have greeted the election of Mr. Trump with unrestrained delight and as a radical reconfiguring of the political landscape — not just in the United States, but in Europe as well.

They are seeing it as a sign that their time has finally arrived, and that the politics of heightened nationalism, immigrant-bashing and anti-globalization have overturned the pro-globalization, pro-immigration consensus.

“It shows that when the people really want something, they can get it,” Ms. Le Pen said in an interview on Friday in this far-right bastion, in France’s depressed postindustrial north.

“When the people want to retake their destiny in hand, they can do it, despite this ceaseless campaign of denigration and infantilization,” she said.

Far-right leaders competed in their fervor to support Mr. Trump. Those already in office, like Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, took the news of Mr. Trump’s victory as a vindication of their stances. Those seeking office, like Ms. Le Pen or Geert Wilders of the Netherlands, saw it as a hopeful sign for their own aspirations, proclaiming that a revolutionary new order was born this week.

That revolution, they said, has overthrown what they called the “elites” — the mainstream news media and establishment politicians — who are in a tacit alliance.

The enthusiasm of the far right was in striking contrast to the coolness of Europe’s mainstream leaders to the week’s news. Some of them, like Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, offered veiled criticism even as they sent Mr. Trump pro forma letters of congratulation.

“It’s the emergence of a new world,” Ms. Le Pen said, after being the first to lay a wreath at the monument here to France’s World War I dead. “It’s the end of the 20th century.”

Even more ecstatic was Mr. Wilders, leader of the Dutch far-right Freedom Party. “Congratulations! A historic victory! A revolution! We will return our country to the Dutch,” Mr. Wilders said on Wednesday on Twitter. He expanded on his thoughts in an op-ed for Breitbart, writing, “We are witnessing the same uprising on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Mr. Wilders, who sports his own Trumpian mane of swept blond hair, is on trial in the Netherlands on charges of hate speech for suggesting that the country was home to too many Moroccans. He refused to attend the trial or to disavow the remarks.

His party is allied with Ms. Le Pen’s National Front in the European Parliament, and both are staunchly anti-immigration. He attended several Trump rallies, and like Ms. Le Pen, he is seeking to be his country’s leader.

Populist leaders, not necessarily of the far right, who have mounted insurgent challenges to longstanding political orders were similarly buoyed by Mr. Trump’s victory, like Beppe Grillo, the leader of the Five Star Movement in Italy.

“They called us sexists, homophobes, demagogues and populists,” Mr. Grillo wrote in a blog post. “They don’t realize that millions of people already no longer read their newspapers and no longer watch their television.”

The idea that Mr. Trump’s supporters had delivered a double blow — to the establishment’s ideas and to the “elite” itself — had wide support.

“The left and the corrupt establishment, which considers itself so superior, are being punished blow by blow by the voters and voted out of various positions of responsibility,” said Heinz-Christian Strache, leader of the Freedom Party of Austria, a serious contender to win the country’s presidency on Dec. 4.

Ms. Le Pen in many ways stands as the most prominent leader of Europe’s far right. The French political establishment was in consensus this week that the news from the United States had put new wind in her political sails.

“Mrs. Le Pen could win in France,” said the former Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, usually known for his sobriety.

A cartoon on the front page of the leading daily Le Monde this week showed a grinning Mr. Trump giving the V for victory sign while a winged Ms. Le Pen happily flew away, with the caption, “Marine Le Pen feels wings grow.”
Some analysts, however, pointed out that she faces significant barriers.

For months, it has been an article of faith in France that Ms. Le Pen will reach the runoff in next year’s presidential elections, but will find it impossible to break through the 30-percent barrier that has roughly comprised the National Front’s share of the vote.

In France, voters on the left and right routinely join in the final round of voting, to form what is called a “republican front” to defeat the candidate of the far right.
Experts suggested on Friday that similar logic might operate next year, and that Ms. Le Pen is no Mr. Trump.

“Le Pen is the candidate of a party that is on the margins of the system,” said Jean-Yves Camus, an expert on Europe’s far-right parties. “Donald Trump was the candidate of the Republican Party. He had resources that were not comparable to hers.”

Ms. Le Pen was in friendly territory here on Friday in this worn, old former coal-mining town, where unemployment reaches 20 percent, twice the national average.

It is one of 11 or so towns in France ruled by the National Front, and it was difficult to find an opposing voice on Friday. “You’re a fantastic woman!” a woman called out to Ms. Le Pen as she ascended the steep steps of the old city hall building. Others crowded around to have cellphone pictures taken with her.
The National Front mayor here, Steeve Briois, is a favorite of Ms. Le Pen’s.

“France is no longer France,” Mr. Briois said in his speech in the council chambers on Friday — the same line Mr. Trump used after the terrorist attack in Nice in July.

Mr. Briois said later he was aware that Mr. Trump had spoken those words, and he agreed with them.

“There is the same desire to change politics in France,” Mr. Briois said. As in the United States, he added, “a lot of French are victims of globalization and immigration.”

“So, we’ve got to change our politics,” he said. “And the only one who can do it is Marine Le Pen.”

  1. THE SETUP

Consider the scale of Donald Trump’s victory: someone who had never run for office led a successful revolt against the Republican establishment, and then roundly defeated a candidate who enjoyed a significant fundraising advantage, a superior ground game, and the nearly unanimous support of American business and media.

Trump didn’t pull off this extraordinary insurgency merely through the force of his personality. He did it by innovating a new kind of politics – Trumpism – that proved enormously popular. The triumph of Trump is the triumph of Trumpism.

What is Trumpism? Most pundits are so flustered by Trump that they have trouble answering this question. Liberals such as Jonathan Chait claim Trump is just another conservative. Conservatives such as George Will counter that Trump is the sworn enemy of conservatism. Still others argue that Trump has no stable politics whatsoever, but simply says whatever people want to hear.

None of these arguments are correct, although each contains a kernel of truth. Trump can be ideologically promiscuous, but he stays faithful to a core set of ideas. And these ideas, while recognizably rightwing, also represent a departure from Republican orthodoxy.

    1. THE BIG LIE ABOUT TRUMPISM

      Trumpism has two main ingredients.

The first is the notion that people of color and women are less than fully human. This idea isn’t new to the Republican party – far from it. But Republicans usually prefer to be a bit less explicit in their reliance on racial hatred and misogyny. As Stanford University professor Tomás Jiménez put it to the New York Times, Trump has turned the “dog whistle into an air horn”. Mainstream Republicans may feign outrage at Trump’s bigotry, but bigotry has been paying the party’s bills for a long time. Trump is merely saying as text what House speaker Paul Ryan says as subtext.

The second component of Trumpism is what pundits insist on calling “populism” – more precisely, an anti-elite ethos that pairs a critique of corporate oligarchy with support for a degree of social protection. Over the course of his campaign, Trump has promised to tax Wall Street, penalize companies for outsourcing jobs, kill the TPP, and renegotiate or rip up Nafta. He has also repeatedly promised to protect social security and Medicare. Of course, it’s likely he has no intention of fulfilling any of these promises. His extremely regressive tax plan includes deep cuts for corporations and the rich, which suggests that President Trump will be far less “populist” than candidate Trump.

  2. THE AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAPH GETS IT

All hail Trump! Rescuer of Western civilization

Example: On the ABC News Radio website, a poll asked: “How do you feel about Donald Trump’s victory as US President-elect?” Elated, concerned, terrified, confident or anxious?

The answer chosen by 49 per cent of respondents was … drum roll … “elated”, with “concerned” a distant second.

Elated about Trump’s victory! On the ABC. Amazing.

Example: Bill Leak’s feckless tormentor, Melissa Dinnison, who alleged she had suffered racial hatred from a cartoon, dropped her 18C complaint.

The Citadel cracked. The Dow Jones soared to all-time highs.

For the first time since the Left staged its “long march” through our institutions, its tools of tyranny are crumbling.

    1. IT GETS BETTER

      {...}

Political correctness, identity politics, cultural Marxism, victim feminism, all kryptonite to the soul of Western civilisation, are under threat.

Brexit was just the prelude to this glorious global revolution of the deplorables.

Hungarian President Viktor Orban defined Trump’s victory as “a historic event, in which Western civilisation appears to successfully break free from the confines of an ideology”.

And so, of course, the Left had a massive tantrum which exposed its ghastliness, its entitled, hate-filled, self-obsessed intolerance.

Assassination threats filled social media, including from a Guardian journalist, who promptly deleted her account. Shocked media clowns, such as the newly minted Senator Derryn Hinch, compared Trump’s victory with the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The sore losers rioted in the streets and burned Trump in effigy, chanting “Dump Trump” and “Not my President”.

They blindly trashed their own patch, the cities that voted for Clinton.

They burned the flag, broke windows, smashed police cars, blocked traffic, beat up suspected Trump supporters and faked hate crimes, thus confirming the wisdom of each and every Trump vote.

If these are the people who hate Trump, then whose side are you on? My enemy’s enemy is my friend.

More confirmation that America made the right decision came from the jazz hands and trigger-warning crowd, who plunged into a state of psychic despair, dubbed Trump-ression.

American universities had to deploy therapy dogs and Play-Doh to calm the nerves of the “snowflake” generation.

Cornell University staged a “cry-in to mourn the results of the (election), with school staff providing tissues and hot chocolate,” reported The Wall Street Journal.

At the University of Michigan, fragile students comforted themselves with colouring-in books.

If this is the future of Western civilisation, no wonder Middle America revolted.

Trump derangement syndrome jumped the oceans, too, with reports of schoolchildren in Sydney bursting into tears and going home early because they’re frightened that Trump will start World War III.

    3. WAKING UP

      {...}

Of course it’s child abuse for their parents and teachers to plant such ideas, just as they did a decade ago when they scared children witless with apocalyptic global warming prophecies.

Undeterred by its abject failure to predict anything other than a Clinton clean sweep, The Sydney Morning Herald ran an obvious hoax story from a Twitter parody account as legitimate news: “Reports from Trump Tower in New York … saw large angry groups chanting ‘We hate Muslims, we hate blacks, we want our great country back’.”

It never happened, but what better example of the degeneracy of the Western world’s prestige media, exposed by WikiLeaks and the status-seeking bias of journalists who handed debate questions to Hillary Clinton so she could cheat, cravenly sought story approval from her campaign and painted Trump as an impossible gargoyle?

“Hug your loved ones”, wrote The Australian’s Peter van Onselen, threatening to tear up his American passport. Mamamia publisher Mia Freedman wailed she was “heartsick and despondent” about the “Trumpocalypse” and urged readers to call Lifeline.

      It was laughable.

But Malcolm Turnbull’s lugubrious tone when announcing Trump’s victory also signalled something more serious than the neuroses of pampered leftists: the threat Trumpism poses to establishment politicians.

Continue to ignore the “forgotten men and women” at your peril.

    4. LOCK HER UP AND DRAIN THE SWAMP

      {...}

Never-Trumpers — represented in politics across the Left, the pointless marshmallow centre and the craven right — are shocked by the US election result because the people they unjustly dismiss as racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic, transphobic bigots were silent. They didn’t express themselves to pollsters or journalists.

They barely dared to put a Trump sign in their front yard or a “Make America Great Again” bumper sticker on their car.

Even in Australia friends avoided the topic for fear of social ostracism.

Only in the remaining oasis of democracy, the polling booth, did the silenced majority feel free to express themselves.

That’s what you get when you silence dissent with political correctness, when you ban speakers from university campuses, make social status dependent on virtue-signalling, traduce religious conservatives, and stack your media organisations with groupthink elitists.

Trump the Vulgarian is an unlikely saviour of Western civilisation, but Christians, who were key to his victory (over abortion, religious freedom and the Supreme Court), liken him to the Roman emperor Constantine.

Similarly a vainglorious egoist, Constantine nonetheless saved the Roman Empire, and liberated Christianity. “Constantine was no pillar of virtue, but he created the environment which gave Christians the freedom to influence society,” wrote Christian website MercatorNet.

Freedom is nigh! Drain the swamp.

    6. Is Trump the new Constantine?
Eight months ago, Blaise Joseph cast Trump as a new Constantine, the pagan emperor who set Christianity free. Here is his far-sighted article.

Conservatives do not lack will, good arguments, or articulate defenders; what they lack is the freedom to speak bluntly about social issues without being shouted down by the vindictive hordes of secular progressivism for “offending” particular groups of people. Donald Trump is the only person who can give us that freedom.

      But first, consider the following:

      Stating that children should ideally have a mother and father because on average they will do best in that environment (as supported overwhelmingly by the relevant social science) renders you “homophobic” (even though the statement has nothing to do homosexuality) and a “hater of single mothers”;
      Explaining that there is actually a biological and societal reason that marriage has been promoted and protected as between a man and a woman for millennia (hint: it's about children) makes you “bigoted”;
      Arguing that the high divorce rate hurts children, and that no-fault divorce is responsible for many social problems, makes you “living in the 1950s” and a “dinosaur” (even though the social data on the effects of divorce is indisputable and President Obama himself has said as much);
      Affirming the biological fact that men and women are inherently different makes you “transphobic” (something that no one knew existed just a few years ago);
Pointing out that babies do not simply magically appear out of nothing after nine months, and may in fact have a right to life and dignity before birth, makes you an extremist (just because) and a sexist (even though this statement says nothing about women).
There are many more examples. The point is that making perfectly reasonable statements causes so much outrage that conservatives either give up or end up losing credibility and becoming impotent in influencing public opinion.

Anders Vendel, a famous chef, restaurant owner and TV star from Malmö, Sweden, was savagely beaten by three “Muslim” men because they thought he looked like “Mr. Trump”, Sydsvenskan reports.

In a Facebook post that was later removed, Mr. Vendel – who is a well-known anti-Racist figure and a star of the TV show “The Struggle of the Chefs”– described the brutal assault that took place early Saturday morning in a late-night fast food restaurant in Malmö.

“I am in the emergency room as of a couple of hours ago awaiting X-rays. I was beaten up by three Muslim men between the ages of 25-35. They thought I bore a resemblance to Mr. Trump.”

“Two of the men grabbed my arms from behind and the third one started punching me all over the face. I tried to defend myself with my legs. After about 20 fists to my face, I fell down to the floor. All three then started kicking me as much as they could in my face and head. I now have a broken nose, bumps, a clogged eye, mouth, lips and jaw. Even a broken right thumb,” he continued.

For the past couple days, I've seen these stories (harassment, assault, even car jacking) all over the internet. They are being put up by blacks, whites, Muslims, Hispanics, and orientals. Most have been been unconfirmed and seem to be put by Clintonistas striking out because of the election. Some of them get quite detailed. They usually start out on Facebook. There is usually no police report associated with them. In some cases, they have been readily debunked.

I checked this story in google. The only place you see it is on right-wing blogs. The story is the same. It was reported on Facebook (and later taken down). There is no mention of the police or any reports to them. And frankly, the guy didn't look anything like Trump to me. I usually operate under the assumption that there are as many right wing nut jobs as there are left wing nut jobs. As I say, I am skeptical. I'm not saying it positively didn't happen. I have no way of knowing. But what I am also saying is I doubt it.

From the looks of the guy he may just have had an argument with his boyfriend.

  13. "Q"Nit of the Day: Muslim Sex Attacks On Swedish Children

Swedish police warn: Muslim migrant sex attacks on children could increase

November 12, 2016 9:19 am By Robert Spencer

The Qur’an teaches that Infidel women can be lawfully taken for sexual use (cf. its allowance for a man to take “captives of the right hand,” 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59) The implication there is that if women do not cover themselves adequately with their outer garments, they may be abused, and that such abuse would be justified.

This includes children, in imitation of Muhammad. Few things are more abundantly attested in Islamic law than the permissibility of child marriage. Islamic tradition records that Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was six when Muhammad wedded her and nine when he consummated the marriage:

“The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death)” (Bukhari 7.62.88).

Another tradition has Aisha herself recount the scene:

The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became all right, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, “Best wishes and Allah’s Blessing and a good luck.” Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah’s Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. (Bukhari 5.58.234).

Muhammad was at this time fifty-four years old.

If a Muslim can marry a child, he can take an Infidel child sex slave.
Instead of issuing impotent warnings, Swedish officials should be changing the policies that led to this situation and taking steps to deport the offenders.

“Migrant sex attacks against children in Sweden could escalate, officials warn,” by Will Kirby, Express, November 11, 2016:

MIGRANT sex attacks against children in the Swedish city of Malmö could increase following a spate of incidents in broad daylight, police have warned.

(((((The City of Malmö has seen a huge rise in migrant crime in recent months.)))))

Records show an increasing number of sexual assault cases in the city and Ewa-Gun Westford, a Police spokesman for the region, has warned there could be more.

She said: “Some cases concern rapes while in other cases it’s sexual molestation, and we think [this situation] could escalate.

“We do not want to create a rancorous atmosphere among the public but want to tread carefully.”

She added: “The information we have leads in a certain direction, but it is very sensitive and [these are] difficult issues for the vulnerable.”

In an incident last month, a 12-year-old girl was raped in mid-afternoon and DNA evidence has led police to believe that these assaults are not being carried out by a lone attacker.

Most of the victims are young girls and a specialist team of 15 police officers has been established in order to investigate the situation….

    2018: A Democrat Nightmare
    By Peter Skurkiss

Not only were Hillary Clinton and the mainstream media solidly defeated on November 8, but so were the Democratic Party's aspirations for capturing the Senate.

From the start of this election cycle to its finish, the media mantra was that flipping the Senate to Democrat control was a near sure thing. This is because of the 34 seats up for election in 2016, 24 were held by Republicans. Well, things didn't turn out that way, and the GOP still holds the U.S. Senate with 52 seats.

Looking ahead to 2018, the shoe will be on the other foot. For then, of the 33 Senate seats up for grabs, only 8 are Republican and 25 are Democrat, which includes two liberal independents who caucus with the Democrats, one being crazy Bernie. Here is a full listing of those 33 seats.

To make matters worse for the Democrats, many of the seats they have to defend in 2018 are in Trump country – Indiana, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, Florida, Ohio, and so on. And if Mitch McConnell, love him or hate him, is half the master Senate tactician he is said to be, he should be able to engineer votes to make vulnerable Democrats even more vulnerable.

In fact, the pressure on these red-state Democrats might be so great that one or more of them might flip to become Republican, with Joe Manchin III (West Virginia) being a prime candidate for such a conversion.

So what have we? The forecast is good for Republicans. Barring a major catastrophe, it is hard to imagine the Republicans not significantly adding to their Senate majority in the next election cycle. And because the GOP has such a firm hold on the governorships, the offices of attorney general, and state legislatures, the odds of the Democrats taking the House are nil.

And if one wants to look out farther, note that the next census is scheduled for 2020. The resulting reapportionment and redistricting from that should add to the political power of the red states at the expense of the blue Democratic ones.

Donald Trump has advertised himself as a agent of change. With a Republican Congress to support him and a soon-to-be law abiding Supreme Court to back him, great strides can be made in restoring the American republic back to her founding principles and thereby Make America Great Again. Color me optimistic.

  18. DONALD Trump has vowed to push ahead with his hard line campaign promise of deporting illegal immigrants.

In his first interview since winning the election, US president-elect Trump said he plans to deport approximately two to three million undocumented migrants immediately upon taking up office.

“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million — we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Trump said.

The billionaire turned president made the comments in his first interview since winning the election, according to an excerpt released by America’s 60 Minutes.
