COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Trump Predicted Osama bin Laden Attack Two Years Before It Happened

The Unz Review: An Alternative Media Selection:

Truth About 9/11
“America’s strategic and economic interests in the Mideast and Muslim world are being threatened by the agony in Palestine, which inevitably invites terrorist attacks against US citizens and property.”

Eric Margolis Sun Media Sept 2 2001 (nine days before the Sept 11 attacks against New York and Washington DC.)

As Americans enter the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on their nation, they still have not understood the true cause of these dreadful attacks.

Who can blame them? Our politicians and media have totally obscured the truth behind these and subsequent attacks that we call ‘terrorism.’ While we mourn 9/11, US B-52 heavy bombers are raining bombs on what’s left of Afghanistan in a futile attempt to crush tribal forces (aka Taliban) fighting western occupation.

We did the same thing in Laos in the 1980’s, as President Barack Obama properly noted during his visit there last week. Laos has never recovered and Afghanistan won’t either.

Since 2015, the US has dropped at least 32,000 – 1,000-2,000 lb. bombs on Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan – all Muslim nations. US bomb inventories are running critically low as arms makers work overtime.

9/11 was a revenge attack conducted by mostly Saudi nationals who claimed they wanted to punish the United States for supporting Israeli oppression of Palestine, and for what they claimed was the US ‘occupation’ of Saudi Arabia.

That’s as much as we really know. We have never gotten the full story about 9/11.

The best we can do is ask “qui bono,” who really benefitted from the attacks?

The 9/11 narrative was immediately twisted by President George Bush into a spurious claim that America had been attacked by Muslims because of its ‘freedoms’ and her ‘way of life.’ This deceit opened the Pandora’s box from which issued the rising wave of Islamophobia and Crusading fever sweeping over the US and Europe.

America was attacked for what it had been doing all over the Muslim world, not for what it was. Most Americans don’t know that the first CIA ‘regime change’ in the Mideast occurred in Syria, way back in 1948. We’re still at it today.

Ever since, the US, Britain and France – the imperial three musketeers – have been breaking and making regimes across the Mideast and Africa, and installing vicious dictators to do our bidding, earning enemies from West Africa to Tajikistan.

Hillary Clinton said this week that if elected president she would advance ‘American exceptionalism’ and assure the new world order. These are code terms for imperialism and hegemony. If Clinton wins, look forward to foreign and military policy directed by Goldman Sachs and the neoconservatives.

Donald Trump vows a major increase military spending at a time when America’s infrastructure is rusting or collapsing and its debt soaring. Both Trump and Clinton warn of growing security threats to America from ISIS and North Korea. In reality, the greatest internal threat is the type of Saturday night gang shoot-outs in Chicago that have killed 500 people so far this year.

ISIS is a military pipsqueak – a bunch of 20-something hooligans. North Korea only wants to be left alone to its misery. Washington, Paris, and London need the ISIS bogeyman today, just as they needed al-Qaida and the Soviet Union before, to justify budget-busting new arms spending and keeping the population whipped up with bogus war fever.

Internationally, the greatest threat to America’s security is, of course, nuclear armed Russia which has enough intercontinental and sea-launched missiles to wipe the United States off the map. Accordingly, Washington’s most important foreign and national security priority is maintaining calm, well-mannered relations with Russia and its leadership.

Instead, we have Hillary Clinton and her frantic war party neocons trying to provoke Russia at every turn and giving Moscow the impression that she will start a war with Russia. It was precisely such war talk and saber rattling that in 1983 during the Able Archer crisis brought the US and USSR to within minutes of a full-scale nuclear war.

For all Trump’s bluster and Islamophobia, he is absolutely right about seeking good relations with Moscow. The schoolyard demonization of Russian President Vladimir Putin by the Clinton camp and its tame US media is childish, shameful and unworthy of a great power.

I agree with Eric Margolis' article except where he kind of implies Trump might be any different. Trump's positions are constantly twisting, He has already gone back on his pledge to cut military spending and is now calling for the end of sequestration and an increase in spending. And face it, you can't be expected to keep on building newer, more powerful weapons and not use them.

Trump will be the MIC's poodle in no time (were he to win).

Those wonderful adherents of the religion of peace ’n’ love who still celebrate in public whenever their co-religionists succeed in a mass-slaughter of infidels. They cheer and fire their guns into the air and hand out candy to kids in honor of the victorious shahids.”

On the morning of September 11th I got into work at 5am to be told by my coffee shop proprietor that the World Trade Center was “gone”. I went home at 4pm and watched the news of it on all 5 TV channels – surfing from one to the other and back – and on one commerical channel, and one channel only, footage was shown of raucous celebrations in the West Bank, candy being handed out to children, women ululating with joy, etc, the works.

When my wife got home I returned to channel surfing to show her the West Bank footage and it was never repeated on that channel. Not on the 6pm news, the 7pm, the 9pm, etc.

I was gobsmacked. The clear inference was that one TV news editor had deemed it appropriate to broadcast that footage at 4pm, but by 6pm his superiors had deemed it inappropriate, presumably to prevent Australians from getting the “wrong” idea about the lovely Palestinians – it upset the long-cultivated media narrative that they are civilized victims of Israel. I have never seen that West Bank footage on Australian TV since. It has been put down the memory hole. Deeply disturbing.

80 Years On, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Final Stories to Be Published

The final unpublished short stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose book The Great Gatsby depicted the excesses of America’s Jazz Age, will see the light in April 2017, 80 years after they were written.

Scribner, a Simon & Schuster imprint, said it will publish I’d Die for You, a collection of Fitzgerald’s stories that were considered too controversial for print when he penned them in the 1930s.

Fitzgerald had a short and tragic life, dying in 1940 at the age of 44 after struggling for years with his own alcoholism and his wife Zelda’s mental illness.

In his final years, he wrote several stories and submitted them to major publications, but was repeatedly turned down by editors who said his work was too provocative.

“Rather than permit changes and sanitizing by his contemporary editors,” Scribner said on its website, “Fitzgerald preferred to let his work remain unpublished, even at a time when he was in great need of money.”

Gatsby, published in 1925, had captured the loosening mores and economic extremes of a time the author himself dubbed “the Jazz Age.”

“It was an age of miracles…” he wrote. “[I]t was an age of excess.”

The book was praised by contemporaries like T.S. Eliot and Willa Cather, but its sales fell short of his earlier novels This Side of Paradise and The Beautiful and the Damned, leaving Fitzgerald in what he called “great depression.”

The 1929 stock market collapse, and the public’s increasing turn to radio and movies instead of books, further deepened his depression. He and Zelda constantly fought, and her mental health deteriorated.

Fitzgerald died in 1940 after his third heart attack, and the New York Times cited Gatsby as evidence of potential never fully reached. Only after his death did the book enjoy revived popularity; more of his books are sold each month now than during his entire lifetime, and they are standard fare in high school and university literature classes.

As Fitzgerald himself once wrote, “An author ought to write for the youth of his own generation, the critics of the next, and the schoolmasters of ever afterward.”

  20. Mrs Clinton’s ill health has made her look weak. That is an impression that could prove especially damaging for a woman: sexism is plainly behind some of the titanic hatred of Mrs Clinton.

Her campaign’s repeated, and patently untrue, denial that there was anything seriously wrong with her—even, for several hours, after her painful exit from the 9/11 service—has probably also reinforced its reputation for shiftiness. Perhaps most seriously, for Mrs Clinton and the world, her affliction might seem to have vindicated Mr Trump and his fellow conspirators.

The truth, of course, is that pneumonia is not dysphasia. Yet millions of Americans, livid with Mrs Clinton and the establishment politics she represents, might just consider that to be splitting hairs.

    1. Dysarthria is a speech disorder caused by disturbance of muscular control. Dysphasia (also called aphasia) is an impairment of language. They often co-exist.

Strictly speaking, the words anarthria and aphasia mean a total absence of ability to form speech or language but they are often used when dysarthria and dysphasia would be more correct. In particular, dysphasia and aphasia are used interchangeably, with aphasia in more common use.

Dysphasia can be receptive or expressive. Receptive dysphasia is difficulty in comprehension, whilst expressive dysphasia is difficulty in putting words together to make meaning. In reality there is usually considerable overlap of these conditions but a person who has pure dysarthria without dysphasia would be able to read and write as normal and to make meaningful gestures, provided that the necessary motor pathways are intact.

...not sure about the treatment: Dr. Doug was suggesting it.

    3. Hillary Embraces Child Despite Contagious Pneumonia

After Hillary Clinton’s “medical episode” today, it was suddenly announced she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday.

But that didn’t stop her from recklessly embracing a child on a New York City street on Sunday, despite the fact that the illness is contagious.

      I see.

The child is probably being treated as a precaution ?

Pneumonia patients are generally isolated from others....my people who had it were.....at least at first.....

Hillary, who knew she had it at that time, simply doesn't seem to give a damn about anything other than the photo op.

We all hope Dear Huma has had her pneumonia shots, available now at our nation's Wal-Green's now.

    5. Diagnosed with Pneumonia on Friday, Dr. Rufus suggested she claim she is "Feeling Fine."

    6. Much better video, Bob.

...at least she didn't have a hacking fit all over the poor little girl.

      Why should she?

      She says she's feeling "GREAT"

      What a comeback!

I go in every year and get the whole Smörgåsbord.

    4. I've given up on Dr. Chris.

He said just the other day that she was fine, it was all a bunch of conspiracy mongering to question her heath.

I'm sticking with Quirk's Quality Qwik Cure, an internet clinic, as I have all my long healthy life.

With QQQC one can get diagnosed right from the comfort of one's computer by answering a few simple questions....no nasty needles, x-rays, or blood tests needed....

      Easy credit too.

  32. This afternoon the Hillary Clinton campaign cancelled her trip to California this week, her Hollywood fundraisers and her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

    1. For the record…

The lamestream reporters were NOT ALLOWED to follow Sick Hillary to her van.
They were penned in a cage and not allowed to leave.

After Clinton left the ceremony, the reporters following her on the campaign trail were prevented from leaving the media area for a period of time.

    2. In other words, the media suffered internment, like the Japs in WWII.

I fear what may be in store for Republicans if Hillary wins, and gets her National Police Force.

      And, I'm not joking.

  35. In the two videos I've seen, in particular Doug Saxum's Facebook link, I'm struck by how the people around her are reacting. You have the secret service guys scanning the surround but the people in direct contact with HRC seem to be simply propping her up and trying to hussle her into the vehicle. They don't seem surprised or concerned about her health...
