Stupid Hillary (You don’t have to be dumb to be stupid): Clinton Legacy War in Libya - UPDATE

We know how much Hillary loves the wounded and dead veterans. Well the more there are, the more there are to love, I suppose.

She voted for the dumbest US military venture ever, the invasion of Iraq.

She came, She saw, He died, She laughed in Libya.

Then they died in Benghazi.

She did her earnest best in Syria but Obama peed on her parade.

Hillary honors the families of dead veterans regardless of race, creed, color, political affiliation, L, G, G, T, Q, all the same to Hillary as long as they are wounded or dead and is particularly moved by the bereaved parents of dead veterans, extra points for Muslim Democrats.

Hillary is a wounded warrior creating machine. In the Middle East, she has yet to find a regime she didn’t want to change, except for the enlightened head hacking Saudis. Win or lose the Clinton war legacy has legs . The latest on one of her spectacular foreign policy triumphs, Libya:

US launches air strikes on IS group in Sirte after Libyan request

“The first American air strikes on precise positions of the Daesh organisation were carried out today, causing heavy losses... in Sirte," Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj said in a televised speech, using an Arabic term to refer to the IS group.

In Washington, the Pentagon said the raids were launched in response to a request from the unity government.

“At the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), the United States military conducted precision air strikes against ISIL targets in Sirte, Libya, to support GNA-affiliated forces seeking to defeat ISIL in its primary stronghold in Libya," Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said, using another name for the IS group.

US strikes in Sirte “will continue", Cook added without elaborating.

President Barack Obama authorized the bombings following recommendations from top Pentagon officials, and the strikes were "consistent with our approach to combating ISIL by working with capable and motivated local forces", Cook added.
“The US stands with the international community in supporting the GNA as it strives to restore stability and security to Libya," he said.

While the Pentagon has previously carried out air attacks on specific high-value IS group targets in Libya, Monday’s action marked the first known US strikes in Sirte itself.

A US strike targeted an IS group training camp in a rural area near Sabratha, outside Tripoli, in February, likely killing one of the group's leaders, called Noureddine Chouchane, and dozens of other jihadists.
'Growing coordination between unity govt and Washington'

The Tripoli-based GNA launched an operation in May to retake the IS group bastion of Sirte, the hometown of slain dictator Muammar Gaddafi, which the jihadists have controlled since June 2015.

Losing Sirte, 450 kilometres (280 miles) east of Tripoli, would be a major blow to the jihadist group, which has also faced a series of setbacks in Syria and Iraq.
The battle for Sirte has killed around 280 pro-government fighters and wounded more than 1,500, according to medical sources at the unity forces’ command centre.

The pro-GNA forces are mostly made up of militias from western Libya established during the 2011 revolt that overthrew Gaddafi.

A militia set up to guard the country’s main oil facilities has also been advancing on IS group positions.

The GNA was the result of a UN-brokered power-sharing agreement struck in December, but it has yet to be endorsed by Libya's elected parliament based in the country's far east.

Kill more of them than they kill ours and eventually they would lose heart and cease their aggression and that was with an enemy that was sane and rational. How did that work out?

It goes without saying that if there are no local counter-insurgency troops, then there is no popular support to defeat the insurgency.

But the idea that the insurgents would accept a 'political' settlement is not to be found in the historical record.

  4. Clinton aims to ‘get Assad out of Syria’ - potentially causing more chaos in Middle East

US PRESIDENTIAL candidate Hilary Clinton has indicated her first task as president will be to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from office.

The former US secretary of state who has been scorched over her Middle Eastern policy says a "full review" of the issue will be the "first key task" of her presidency.

Mrs Clinton, who has been facing an FBI investigation into the hacking of her email by activists, announced her plans yesterday via her former chief of staff on security.

The UK and US Governments have thus far refused to get involved in a full-on conflict in the country that has been destroyed by civil war since 2011.

Now it seems that despite President Assad's relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin that Mrs Clinton is intent on escalating the conflict by reviewing her policy with a plan to force him out of office against his will.

  11. ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT, July 31, 2016 — The biggest change in Iraq is the sense of confidence and optimism that leaders have “that absolutely didn’t exist last fall,” Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford said after a full day of meeting with Iraqi, U.S. and other coalition leaders in Baghdad and Irbil.

Dunford noted it is almost a year since his first visit to Iraq after being confirmed as chairman; this was his fifth visit to Iraq since. The one constant has been the topic of discussion: the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

“In the first few visits -- July, October, even into December -- I think there was a lot of angst about whether or not the support they were getting was sufficient, whether they were making the right progress on the right timeline and so on,” Dunford told reporters traveling with him. “The corner kind of turned after the first of the year, but you can really see it know where it’s not a question in their minds of whether they will beat [ISIL] -- it’s a question of when.”

Iraqi leaders are actively planning the Mosul offensive, but they are also making sure they plan for what will happen next. Officials believe what they call the "day after" campaign will be just as important as liberating Iraq’s second-largest city from the clutches of ISIL.

    A Complicated Campaign

The Iraqi military has learned the lessons that conducting a military campaign also requires being able to handle internally displaced people and being prepared to go into liberated areas with basic services immediately after the fighting, Dunford said.

The political aims of both Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani -- both of whom Dunford met during the trip -- coincide on this.
It is not simply a matter of pointing troops toward an objective and yelling, “Charge!” Mosul is a diverse city with Sunni, Shia and Kurd populations; the liberators must be able to manage those populations as well. “Dealing [ISIL] a lasting defeat will require effective stabilization and governance in Mosul,” Dunford said.

And that kind of success depends on Iraqi security forces and Kurdish Peshmerga cooperating fully, which will contribute to whether the people of Mosul “believe they are being liberated by capable forces that are going to respect them,” Dunford said.

Before the fighting season begins, all of those factors will also inform the ongoing operational planning. Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga have to communicate to the people in Mosul to engender a degree of cooperation from the population.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Expectations for the Fight

“There is going to be an inside game and an outside game, he said. “The inside game is to get the support of the people of Mosul, and there are ways to accelerate that support. At the same time, the outside game is Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga conducting operations.”

The general wouldn’t try to predict what kind of fight there will be for the city, but “it’s clear that [ISIL]’s willingness to hold ground has eroded over time,” he said. “What they will do inside of Mosul is hard to say. They did leave Fallujah in disorder, and they said that themselves.”

An appreciation of the enemy dictates the campaign plan, the general said. After long study of ISIL leadership, Iraqi and U.S. planners “are looking at the trends and making sure the campaign plan they have, sets the conditions for the minimum loss of life.”

No one in Iraq wants a Stalingrad building-by-building fight for the city, Dunford said.

And this requires patience. “This has to be done on an Iraqi timeline,” the chairman added. “And it has to be done in a manner that considers the military piece and the political piece all at the same time.”

Isolating ISIL inside Mosul, tightening the noose around the terrorists, including going after leaders and resources, and eroding the will of the enemy will pay off in the long run, Dunford said.

“Having some tactical patience even as you have a sense of urgency is the right thing to do," he said. "They want to get after it as soon as they can, but setting the conditions will allow us to do it with fewer casualties and more importantly, a lasting effect.”

  12. Calm Before Storm as Counter-ISIL Coalition Plans Mosul Offensive

BAGHDAD, July 31, 2016 — Right now there is a tactical pause in Iraq, but not an operational pause, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials said on background today.

Officials briefed the press traveling with Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who is meeting with U.S. and Iraqi leaders here about the counter-ISIL campaign.

Iraqi security forces and partnered forces in Syria have made unmistakable gains against the Islamic State of Levant and the Levant, officials said. Iraqi forces have bridged the Tigris River near Qayyarah and secured the airfield there. In Anbar province, Iraqi forces are pushing west, clearing pockets of ISIL fighters as they move toward Qaim. That city is on the border with Syria.

    Coalition Cooperation

Coalition airpower has been decisive in the campaign. Strikes have constrained resources and hit key leaders. In coordination with indigenous forces, they are pressuring ISIL and taking territory from the terrorist group, officials said.

Coalition trainers are also doing their parts. More than 27,000 Iraqi security forces have been trained and equipped by the coalition. There are approximately 4,500 Americans in the theater and more than 2,800 coalition partners. There are more than 60 countries in the coalition.

In Syria, the coalition is providing “logistic assistance, advice and a little bit of training” to Syrian democratic forces. In Syria, anti-ISIL forces are also making progress. The ISIL stronghold of Manbij is now surrounded and that is cutting the number of foreign fighters that are able to get into Syria and Iraq.

Facing the growing coalition is about 20,000 to 27,000 ISIL fighters, officials said, adding that the number of foreign fighters is reduced, but it is hard to assess.

“At the heyday, we think about 2,000 a month were coming in to Syria. We think 200 to 500 are coming in per month now,” an official said. “We have not assessed this since cutting off Manbij.”

Mosul is the ISIL headquarters in Iraq, and Raqqa is its headquarters in Syria -- and those two cities are where the largest portions of the ISIL units remain.

Operations in Iraq are aimed at retaking Mosul -- Iraq’s second-largest city.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Qayyarah West airfield has been seized and planners expect that will become the logistics hub for the operation against ISIL forces in Mosul. Iraqi forces also put in a bridge across the Tigris in the strategic region that connect two major Iraqi units: the 9th Division on the west side of the river and the 15th on the east. It is the only bridge across the river in the region and ISIL forces have to depend on small boats to ferry across, leaving them open to attack.

Still it is difficult because civilians also need to cross the river and officials are careful to hit ISIL boats and not carrying non-combatants, officials said. “It is not a free fire zone,” an official said.

      Prep Steps

With all this accomplished, there is a tactical pause in Iraq. Part of this is the environment; it is typically over 120 degrees in the summer, and officials said the fighting seasons are traditionally in the spring and fall.

Another part is the Iraqi security forces are generating the forces needed to take Mosul. Officials estimate they will need between eight and 12 brigades to assault the city.

“We are at a point right now with the campaign, where the campaign is not tied to the speed of our partners’ operations on the ground,” an official said. “We’ve got enough to hit [during] the shaping operations toward Mosul and then against ISIL writ large. We’ve got plenty of things to bomb even if they take an extra day.”

While Iraqi forces are refitting and training for the operation in Mosul, the campaign doesn’t stop. The operation against ISIL in Mosul is conditions-based and won’t begin until all is ready.

  13. As more Americans have made a mobile phone their main phone, polls that contact only landline phones look increasingly behind the times. HuffPost Pollster has decided we need to evolve.

By the end of last year, 48 percent of American adults didn’t have a landline phone. Another 16 percent had a landline but relied mostly on their mobile phone to make and receive calls.

That’s 64 percent of Americans who are only or primarily reachable via mobile phone. The numbers go even higher for those under age 45 and for minorities. Sixty percent of Hispanic adults don’t have a landline at all, and more than two-thirds of Americans between ages 25 and 34 rely solely on a mobile phone.

HuffPost Pollster has always sought to base our charts on as many sound polls as possible. As long as a pollster makes a good-faith professional effort to obtain a representative sample of the population, we include the survey’s results. In our opinion, polls that call only landlines with no attempt to sample the other half of the population no longer fit that description. So from now on, we will no longer include the results from landline-only telephone polls in our charts.

This decision isn’t likely to produce much change in the HuffPost Pollster charts. There are only a few professional pollsters that haven’t already adapted their methods to reach Americans without landlines. Most who use live interviewers began calling cell phone users several years ago. The most prolific operators of automated phone surveys, who can’t use their systems to call mobile phones, supplement their landline samples either with live-caller interviews of cell phone users or with internet samples.

But some pollsters have not adapted to this change in people’s behavior ― as Pew Research puts it, “going the way of the dinosaur.” That doesn’t mean their results are always wrong: Landline-only samples can be accurate in measuring elections such as Republican primaries, where the voters themselves are skewed older and whiter. In a higher-turnout contest with more diverse voters, however, there’s reason to think landline-only surveys can no longer accurately measure opinion.

Sure, polling data can be adjusted to better account for the missing people. But if you’re trying to adjust for missing half of all Americans, it’s time to fix your methods.
