The Turkish embassy in Baghdad is investigating reports that a group of Turkish construction workers were among 60 people abducted by militants near Kirkuk. Isis seized 15 Turks who were building a hospital near the town of Dour, in Salahuddin province near Kirkuk.

Here's another example to point to when opponents of a higher minimum wage claim that it would cost jobs. The minimum in San Jose, California, has gone from $8.00 an hour to $10.00 and then $10.15, and University of California-Berkeley economist Michael Reich has been studying the results:

American Business Escapes the IRS, So Why Can’t You?
This week medical device maker Medtronic (MDT) agreed to acquire a smaller competitor, Covidien (COV), for $42.9 billion. Medtronic will earn back a big chunk of the price by cutting its U.S. tax bill.
Because Covidien’s base is Dublin, Ireland, and because its market value is more than 20% of Medtronic’s value, U.S. tax law allows the combined company to re-incorporate itself in the smaller partner’s home country.
For tax purposes, Medtronic will be an Irish citizen after the deal closes — but it will stay American in most every other way. The top executives can still live in the U.S., do all their work here, and keep their U.S. stock listing.
How much will Medtronic save? Ireland’s corporate tax rates are attractive, but the real advantage is that Medtronic will be able to keep its $14 billion in offshore cash, well, offshore. That money would face U.S. tax rates if an American Medtronic brought it back to the U.S.

Medtronic isn’t the only company using the tax inversion loophole. Pfizer (PFE) tried to do the same with its $100 billion attempt to buy AstraZeneca (AZN) and move its domicile to the United Kingdom. Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX) is making a similar $54.2 billion run at Allergan (AGN).
According to Bloomberg, 307 U.S. corporations are holding a total of almost $2 trillion in offshore profits. That money can’t come home without facing the IRS, so companies leave it outside the country.
The amounts are growing so absurdly large that moving the company to the money is easier — and financially wiser — than bringing the money back to the company’s headquarters in the U.S.
Some companies do resist the urge, though. EBay (EBAY) announced back in April that it would repatriate $9 billion in offshore cash to make strategic acquisitions in the U.S. — and took a $3 billion charge against earnings to pay corporate income tax on the $9 billion.
E-bay the savior of US?

The vehicle’s licence plate corresponds to that of the Israeli military with a black background and the letter Tsade (צ) (see image below)
Al Qseir is a strategic border town on the Northern frontier of Lebanon. Occupied by rebels, it was taken back by Syrian forces on Monday.
Al-Qseir controls the highway which runs from the Lebanese border to Homs. It is through this border city that weapons and foreign mercenaries have entered Syria.
According to SANA, quoting (unconfirmed) media source:
