Rotten to the Corps

Jessica L. Wright, the acting under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, said today that the Defense Department must maintain its commitment to diversity and inclusion, which contribute to mission success.
She asserted that diversity helps civilian and military employees perform well because they “represent the nation in our workforce.”
The Defense Department not only talks “about diversity in terms of race and gender, and ethnicity, but it is much more than that in my mind,” Wright said. She declared that diversity included “your thought process, how you grew up, [and] what you can add to the greater good because of your background.”
Wright, the very model of a modern retired major general in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was speaking Tuesday on best practices for inclusion and diversity at an event hosted by the German Marhsall Fund of the United States.
The webpage for the event, titled “Mission Critical: Transatlantic Security and Diversity,” declared, “it is a security imperative for military leaders to proactively advance diversity and inclusion (D&I) best practices,” because of the “rapid demographic change [and] advances in gender and LGBT equity and a new generation of veterans in NATO countries.”
-----------------------------------------

"The US Armed Forces have become rotten through political correctness.

5,000 years of recorded military history show that unit cohesion, esprit de corps, combat effectiveness, etc., is not enhanced by increased 'diversity', whatever that means. It is done through people seeing themselves as one single unit, not as a collection of individuals.

From Gen. Dempsey's worries that the worst possible outcome of the Ft. Hood shooting would be if it harmed the Armys diversity, to this dingy broad, the fact that so many of our so-called military leaders seem to believe 'diversity' is essential to the military's mission makes me wonder exactly what the mission of the military is these days."

Don’t look now, but another Asian crisis may be brewing — courtesy of the U.S. Federal Reserve.

A paper recently published by the Bank of International Settlements — a multilateral club of monetary authorities that includes the Fed as a member — noted that central bank bond-buying, or “quantitative easing,” has made dollar-based loans so cheap that Asian companies are ramping up their borrowing in greenbacks. The paper’s authors fear that once the Fed and the Bank of Japan eventually turn off their liquidity taps, rising dollar interest rates will leave these Asian debtors unable to pay back the money.

That should trigger uncomfortable memories of the debt and currency “death spiral” of 1997-98, when plunging local currencies fueled a crisis in Asia that spread financial contagion around the world.

The actual unemployment rate when using the same metrics and statistics as just 6 years ago is over 10%. The workforce has shrunk, they do not measure those unemployed for more than 60 days now.

Now if you take into account the numbers of college kids who now get loans for advanced degrees to stay in school rather than even try to get a job?

      Stay the Course!

Syria has destroyed critical equipment for producing chemical weapons and poison gas munitions, the global chemical weapons watchdog said Thursday as fierce clashes raged in the country's north, close to one of the sites where toxic agents are believed to be stored.

The announcement by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons came one day ahead of the Nov. 1 deadline set by The Hague-based organization for Damascus to destroy or "render inoperable" all chemical weapon production facilities and machinery for mixing chemicals into poison gas and filling munitions.

The completion of what is essentially the initial stage of destruction is a significant milestone in an ambitious timeline that aims to destroy all of Damascus' chemical weapons by mid-2014.

Destruction of the equipment means that Syria can no longer produce new chemical weapons.

While the destruction of the chemical weapons was a good thing in and of itself it is insignificant in the broader issue of the war in Syria. Thousands (not hundreds) continue to die, 7 million refugees. All of the players are still in place.

The only thing this did was replace newspaper headlines of the carnage in Syria with a 'feel good' story.

  13. Business Activity in the U.S. Midwest Surged

By Alister Bull and Pedro da Costa
    WASHINGTON | Thu Oct 31, 2013 10:47am EDT

(Reuters) - Business activity in the U.S. Midwest surged past expectations in October as new orders hit their highest level since 2004, countering recent evidence of soft economic growth.

Weekly unemployment claims also fell, in welcome news for the nation's battered labor market after the impact of a government shutdown on furloughed federal workers diminished.

The Institute for Supply Management-Chicago business barometer jumped to 65.9 from 55.7, the strongest reading since March 2011 and well above the most optimistic forecast in a Reuters poll.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 340,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

The U.S. job market has apparently slackened in recent months, with private-sector employers hiring fewer workers in October after uncertainty caused by budget brinkmanship in Washington dented confidence among both consumers and businesses.

The article referred to revenue rather than National Income so I assume that was what was meant. However, most of the revenue increase was due to taxes increases (FICA, higher incomes, various smaller taxes) rather than actual growth except possibly at the high end. The FICA hit was the big one and was one more instance of the little guy taking it in the ass.

  15. MOSCOW, October 31 (RIA Novosti) – Fugitive former US security contractor Edward Snowden has found a website maintenance job in Russia, his lawyer said Thursday.

Snowden, who was granted temporary asylum in Russia this summer, will start work November 1 in maintaining one of Russia’s largest websites, Anatoly Kucherena said.

Kucherena refused to reveal the name of Snowden’s new workplace “for security reasons.”

Snowden, a former employee of the US National Security Agency, fled the United States for Hong Kong and then Moscow after leaking details of several top-secret government surveillance programs to the media.

Russia granted him asylum, despite repeated demands from the US for his extradition. Snowden has since August been living at an undisclosed location in Russia.

Technology news website Digit.ru speculated that Snowden may have joined social networking site VKontakte.ru, Russia’s equivalent of Facebook.

The website, an affiliate of RIA Novosti, said other major Russian online companies, including Yandex and Mail.ru, had categorically denied they had hired Snowden.

VKontakte spokesman Georgy Lobushkin said he could not comment on the issue, but would not rule out his company had recruited Snowden.

Marital rape, also known as spousal rape, is non-consensual sex in which the perpetrator is the victim's spouse. It is a form of partner rape, of domestic violence, and of sexual abuse. It can be equally, if not more, emotionally and physically damaging than rape by a stranger.

  24. Obama's likeness to Lincoln cannot be discounted. Obama is a wanna be dictator. Lincoln was a dictator in fact. He used his office to maneuver the South into firing the first shot. He needed that to justify the war that followed in which he oversaw the cold blooded murder of nearly 3/4 of a million, men, women and children during his War of Northern Aggression.
the United States is the only country that resorted to war to resolve its slavery question.

Lincoln used the power of his office to shutdown newspapers and imprison editors that opposed his war making policies. He had one Ohio Congressman arrested and deported to the South for opposing him. Lincoln was responsible for the draft riots in New York in which many were killed by U.S. forces.

Lincoln didn't free the slaves out of the goodness of his heart or for his love of the American negro. His over hyped Emancipation Proclamation freed only the slaves in the states still in open conflict with the United States government. He hoped that this would cause those slaves to rise up in rebellion against their masters.

Lincoln didn't use the slavery angle until the war became so unpopular in the North that he needed something to rekindle Northern blood lust against their southern brothers. He came up with the Emancipation Proclamation

The southern states seceded because of the tariffs and duties collected on southern cotton that were ruining their economy. Lincoln began the war to restore the revenue houses that collected the tariffs and duties in the South that were lost by the secession.

Contrary to government propaganda and Lincoln's legacy, secession is and was legal. It is a legal remedy to restore the balance between federal oppression and individual and state's rights. many of the state's that ratified the Constitution had language in their ratification documents that explicitly retained the secession option.

Lincoln had meetings with prominent negro leaders in the White House during which he tried to convince them that after the war it would be wise for the negroes to emigrate to Liberia and South America.

Obama was afraid that the parallels to his administration and Lincoln's might come out and that would have been bad for Lincoln.less

Had Israel seen the project through, it would now be a world class competitor in fighter aircraft and would not find itself dependent on the US. Of course, the American government saved its aircraft manufacturers from serious competition.

Eventually, I hope the project is taken up. If so, Israel will be building the best fighters in the world and will not find itself at the mercy of an ally who would tell the world about Israel's latest action in Syria, for instance. Time will tell. At some point, even Israel will get far less corruptible leaders.

    1. ummm rat, errr Ed, you don't seem to understand what is going on.

Basically the Fed is working to keep interest rates low - bend the yield curve. They have limited means to do this with the primary tool being the overnight rate. The overnight rate is virtually zero so it can't go any lower. Their new 'tool' is buy the US bonds on the open market - it keeps yields low because there is a buyer (the FED) to the tune of 85 billion US a month (note they are still buying Mortgage backed securities as well).

Recent history - the Fed led the market to believe that they were going to start tapering which simply means they will be buying LESS per month than they are now. Interest rates immediately started to rise. They then said NO to tapering, interest rates fell.

Now take Rufus confident assertion in to consideration. He said, with air of confident knowledge, that they can simply start selling the suckers as easily as they are buying them. You really think that is the case? If so, please tell me who will step up and buy these bonds (at their very low interest rate plus those wonderful MBS's) when there is the normal supply (current sale of new issue bonds) PLUS the backlog sitting on the FED shelves?

Please tell us Rat, errrr ED, or Rufus why there would be a hungry market for all those bonds with a low coupon rate!

    1. Such is life.

When ObamaCare, a Heritage Foundation proposal, fails
To remedy the situation, they'll just have to go to "Single Payer".

Same policy, same coverage, for everyone.

So, it's really that simple, is it? We must not overlook the need for commissars. Will they get to wear those funny looking riding pants and knee-high polished boots? Oh, I forgot the riding crop. Every commissar must have a crop with an effigy of "Dear Leader" carved on the handle end.

That is where the Federals will go, if the Heritage Foundation program fails.

    12. Medical care and money are not fungible because, by definition, they are not equally interchangeable. Consider: A liver transplant may cost $200,000 in case "A", but because of unique circumstances in case "B" the cost may be $500,000. The course of any medical procedure cannot be known; therefore, its cost cannot be known. Fungibility requires single units of known quantities, e.g. $35.00 for all 32 oz. hammers at all Home Depot stores.

Foreign aid and "ObamaCare?" are entirely different subjects, save to the extent that they give some folks the opportunity to vent their inner anti-Semites.

      that's: 17,000,000,000,0000

military aid to Israel is 3 billion a year.

America's debt? 17,000 billion. America aid to Israel? 3 billion.

      Israel is hardly the issue.

Obama wasted 643 Million on a website. LOL (sorry that's too funny)

The federal reserve? printed 17 TRILLION in 4 years in free money. It's now printing at 80 BILLION a month..

Israel's 3 billion? LOL Compared to what?

The HUNDREDS of billions a month spent on Nato? Protecting the Chinese Oil supply?

Maybe Israel should cut back on aid and just charge market prices to the USA for Israeli innovations and inventions?

As it stands now? that 3 billion in military aid gives America an inside DEAL on Israeli inventions and innovations.

If America were to cut that aid? israel could then sell it's inventions to the highest bidder....

Becareful of what you wish for....

    15. I have long advocated that Israel should cut the aid back. Sadly America supplies and supports Israel's enemies with aid, tanks, jets, training and support...

Maybe if America would stop supporting the Islamists and their war machines? Israel could end it's need to take the money. Cause the strings that are attached? Suck...

    5. For years I have strongly advocated for Mr.Netanyahu to keep his word and cut Israel loose from American aid. I believe Israel could work out some extremely lucrative deals on its own, say, helping the Chinese put together a state of the art stealth fighter.Israel already has the prototype. With the addition of its other avionic innovations (incorporated on the F-35 and FD-22) the best fighter in the world would be the outcome. This is why the US demanded a halt to Israel's previous work.

I'm all about free trade and am opposed to foreign aid other than foodstuffs in general emergencies. All that is needed is some honest Israeli politicians (Yes, there may be an oxymoron there).

The Invention of the Jewish People is a book written by Shlomo Sand, an Israeli professor of history at the University of Tel Aviv.

The author wasn’t probing a belief system but Zionist fabrications of a spurious common lineage for people of the Jewish faith.

Sand argues that the idea of Jews having a common ethnic identity is implausible because, as with Christianity and Islam, Judaism was originally a “proselytising religion”.

The notion of Judaism as a “race”, rather than a religion of various races, is without foundation.

The recent study by John Hopkins geneticist Dr Elhaik confirms that the common genome structure of the European Jew gravitated towards an origin in old Khazaria.

“The majority of Jews do not have Middle Eastern genetic component,” he told Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Founded on a mélange of myths and manufactured historical tales, Israel has failed the archaeological test of time and is now exposed by DNA science.
Today’s genetics prove unequivocally that in 1948 “the children of the original Jews” were replaced by converts with no roots in the Middle East.
