Body Language and facial expressions tells what Obama really thinks about Netanyahu

Notice the body language of Obama facing away from Netanyahu and Netanyahu almost falling out of his chair trying to get closer. Look at Netanyahu’s face. Obama still parroted the usual line about unshakable ties. Netanyahu plied the plea about what the US owes Israel:

Compare Obama’s relaxed look and his body language while meeting Prime Minister Singh of India. Obama keeps his hands as far away from Netanyahu as possible and does the opposite with PM Singh. At the end of the joint meeting Obama is stiff and stern with Netanyahu. Compare that with the last ten seconds with Singh:

Obama cant stand a strong MAN that stands up for his people. as for your slander (daily) about Bibi?

Says more about you than he.

You never said that about the "new" leader of Iran who has stated on tape that he mislead and lied to the west to increase the centrifuges from 150 to 3000 under his "negotiations"

The rapid movement away from a "military solution" in Syria by the US and Europe ...

    And now ...

Bibi has lost the solid backing Israel had enjoyed with American power brokers.

Israel has no proven nukes. Even if they did, they have never verbally threatened with them. Iran, on the other hand, has blustered and stamped across the world stage threatening any and all, including authors. It's a case of the rational west meeting the insane east..

The Israelis had nine young athletes slaughtered by criminals in Munich and it is a national horror and trauma. The same nation, Israel, pays assassins to slaughter five young scientists in the street and with a smirk, a wink and a cute turn of phrase is defined as rational.

MOSCOW - Russia wants to revive plans for a conference on ridding the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction now that Syria has pledged to abandon its chemical arms, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in comments published on Monday. reported in the JPost ...

Speaking at the UN General Assembly for the second time this week, President Hassan Rouhani called for a world disarmament conference to establish a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East.

“As long as nuclear weapons exist, the threat of their use exists,” Rouhani said, recalling the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

Calling for a "nuclear-free zone" in the Middle East, Rouhani said that Israel was the only country in the region that had not yet signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. ....
    ...

Rouhani has called for a conference to create a zone free of nuclear weapons or any WMD weapons in the Middle East without delay. All countries, he said, should participate in the conference.

He stated that any use of nuclear weapons is a violation against humanity, stating that "the world has waited too long for nuclear disarmament."

"Almost four decades of international efforts to establish nuclear weapon-free zones have regrettably failed," he said. "Urgent, practical steps toward the establishment of such a zone are necessary. The international community has to redouble efforts in support of the establishment of this zone."

Nuclear disarmament “should be implemented in a comprehensive and non-discriminatory manner,” Rouhani declared.

On the way to full elimination, “nuclear states should refrain from threats or use of such weapons against non-nuclear states under any circumstances,” he said.

"Threatening non-nuclear states with nuclear weapons should end. The modernization of these weapons undercuts efforts for their total abolition," Iranian President stressed.

After meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, President Obama said: "It is imperative that Iran not possess a nuclear weapon. That is important for American security; it is important for Israeli security; it's important for world security....And given the statements and actions from the Iranian regime in the past - the threats against Israel, the acts against Israel - it is absolutely clear that words are not sufficient, that we have to have actions that give the international community confidence that, in fact, they are meeting their international obligations fully, and that they are not in a position to have a nuclear weapon."

"We enter into these negotiations [with Iran] very clear-eyed. They will not be easy. And anything that we do will require the highest standards of verification....We take no options off the table, including military options, in terms of making sure that we do not have nuclear weapons in Iran that would destabilize the region and potentially threaten the United States of America."

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "The most important challenge is preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. I appreciate...the statement you made that Iran's conciliatory words have to be matched by real actions - transparent, verifiable, meaningful actions. Iran is committed to Israel's destruction. So for Israel, the ultimate test of a future agreement with Iran is whether or not Iran dismantles its military nuclear program." (White House)

  20. Kerry sees potential for swift Iran deal

US secretary of state says a deal on Iran’s nuclear programme could be reached within the three-to six-month time frame.

A deal on Iran's nuclear programme could be reached within the three- to six-month time frame and would have the potential to dramatically improve the relationship between the two countries, US Secretary of State John Kerry said.

What we need are actions that prove that we and our allies, our friends in the region, can never be threatened by this programme.

John Kerry, US Secretary of State

"It's possible to have a deal sooner than that depending on how forthcoming and clear Iran is prepared to be," Kerry said in an interview aired on CBS's "60 Minutes" on Sunday.

"If it is a peaceful programme, and we can all see that - the whole world sees that - the relationship with Iran can change dramatically for the better and it can change fast," Kerry said.

He added that Iran could prove its sincerity by immediately opening its nuclear facilities to inspectors and keeping its uranium at lower grades unsuitable for military use.

"Iran needs to take rapid steps, clear and convincing steps, to live up to the international community's requirements regarding nuclear programs, peaceful nuclear programmes," Kerry said.

"Words are not going to replace actions," he said. "What we need are actions that prove that we and our allies, our friends in the region, can never be threatened by this programme."

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and US President Barack Obama spoke by telephone on Friday in the highest-level contact between the two countries since diplomatic relations were cut a year after the Iranian revolution.

    Enrichment rights

Iran has defended its right to enrich uranium as part of a civilian nuclear energy and medicine programme and denied that it aims to develop atomic weapons, but the United States and its allies have sought an end to higher-grade uranium enrichment that could be a step away from the production of weapons-grade material.

In a separate interview, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country's right to peaceful nuclear enrichment was not for negotiation but stressed that Tehran did not need to enrich uranium to military-grade levels.

"Having an Iran that does not have nuclear weapons, is not just your goal, it's first and foremost our goal," he told ABC's "This Week" programme.

Zarif said Iran was willing to have its facilities visited by international inspectors to prove it was not seeking to build a nuclear bomb.

The Hadendoa are traditionally a pastoral people, ruled by a Hereditary Chief, called a Ma'ahes, who, in colonial times, was directly responsible to the Anglo-Egyptian government of Sudan. Osman Digna, one of the best-known chiefs during the Mahdiyyah rebellion under Muhammad Ahmad, was a Hadendoa, and the tribe contributed some of the fiercest of the Dervish warriors in the wars of 1883–98. So determined were they in their opposition to the Anglo-Egyptian forces that the name Hadendoa grew to be nearly synonymous with rebel. This, however, was the result of Egyptian misgovernment rather than religious enthusiasm, as the Hadendoa of the time were true Beja

  30. At wintertime in a Jewish home in the United States, you’re more likely to find a Christmas tree than a kosher kitchen.

That’s one of the findings in a sweeping new study of Jewish Americans from the Pew Research Center, which polled nearly 3,500 Jewish Americans about their beliefs and practices.

Nearly one out of three Jewish Americans —32% — said they had a Christmas tree in their home last year, Pew found. In comparison, only 22% said they kept kosher at home.

The survey focused chiefly on nearly 3,500 Jewish Americans, including both religious and nonreligious Jews. However, researchers also interviewed nearly 1,200 people with Jewish backgrounds who embraced another faith or do not consider themselves Jewish, along with more than 400 people with “Jewish affinity” — people who do not have Jewish parents or upbringing, and who have another religion, but still call themselves Jewish or partially Jewish.

The study also found that more than a fifth of Jewish Americans say they don’t have a religion, even though they still identify themselves as Jewish. It also included a slew of other interesting findings:

Jews are much less likely than other Americans to say that religion is important in their lives. Religious Jews place less importance on religion than the average American, Pew found, with 31% saying it is very important in their lives, compared with 56% of the U.S. public.

They’re also less likely to believe in God, with 23% of Jewish Americans saying they don’t believe, compared with 7% of the general public. The exception on both counts is Orthodox Jews, 83% of whom say religion is very important in their lives, and only 2% of whom say they don’t believe in God.

    1. The survey also revealed Jewish concern about peace efforts: Only 38% of Jewish Americans surveyed think the Israeli government is making a sincere effort to bring about peace with the Palestinians. Even fewer, 12%, think the Palestinian leadership is trying. In a separate question, 44% said continuing to build Jewish settlements in the West Bank hurts Israeli security.

Can you be Jewish even if you don’t believe in God? Less than a third of Jews — even religious Jews — think someone can’t be Jewish without believing in God. That makes sense since only 15% see being Jewish as “mainly a matter of religion,” the survey also showed. Most believe it is also or chiefly about culture and ancestry.

Libya is a failed state, if "state" is even applicable.

Egypt is a failed state that has not recognized its plight. It's strategic reserves of foodstuffs can be measured in days; it has vehicle fuel sufficient for about a month, assuming no war.

      Syria is history.

Lebanon is a failed state, incapable of maintaining order within its own borders.

      Jordan is quiescent.

Saudi Arabia is now the de facto ally of Israel, both having an interest in dehorning Iran.

Israel now has the time and opportunity to concentrate on Hezbollah. With Hezbollah bogged down in Syria, its potential for mischief is greatly reduced as are its reserves.

Whatever options Israel chooses to deal with its enemies and, incidentally, those of the United States, the American public will support it overwhelmingly.

    1. Con Coughlin, aye?

      Let's investigate ....

As I explain in my book Churchill’s First War, young Winston, like any young subaltern of his generation, approached his participation in the punitive campaigns undertaken in 1897 by the British against the fierce tribesmen of the North-West Frontier with great relish and every confidence that the might of the British Empire would easily prevail over the “wild rifle-armed clansmen”.

But after six weeks of intense fighting, during which he came under fire “ten complete times” and on several occasions came within a whisker of losing his own life, Churchill had changed his tune. War was a gory spectacle, the young Winston concluded, and it was unlikely that the Pashtun tribesmen could ever be beaten by military might alone.

Indeed, in his later account of the campaign, Churchill even suggests that some of the collective punishments imposed by the British against the tribes, such as the wholesale burning of villages, might amount to war crimes. “We are a very cruel people,” lamented Churchill.
      ...
Just like the British in the 19th century, there is little doubt that the military firepower available to whatever international coalition can be cobbled together to confront the Assad clan will be infinitely superior to that of the Syrians.
      ...
Yet in many respects, as Churchill found during his brief spell of combat during the 1890s, launching military action is the easy part of the equation. It is what comes after the missiles have stopped falling on Assad’s bunkers that will present the real difficulties ...
      ...
In the 1890s, Russian meddling in Afghanistan was one of the primary reasons Churchill, together with thousands of other British soldiers, found themselves fighting an unwinnable war on the North-West Frontier. Today, unless Cameron is careful, he could soon find himself in the same predicament as his illustrious predecessor, only with potentially more disastrous consequences.

Con Coughlin is the author of Churchill’s First War (Macmillan)
