COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Israeli Defense Forces have ushered in a new era of fighting dirty. Experimenting with scent-based crowd control since 2004, David Ben Harosh, head of technological development for the Israeli police, has refined a concoction of noxious rot and sewage which can be fired from a water cannon.

At the end of this first video pay attention to the smug little bastard from the IDF talk about the ingredients, “household ingredients as well”. He is very pleased with himself and his participation in the humiliation and degradation of Palestinian people. Such tactics would not be tolerated in the US or any other civilized European country.

Military thuggery worthy of Selma, Alabama in the 1960’s

  1. Skunk (weapon)

"Skunk" is a malodorant, non-lethal weapon used for crowd control by the Israeli Defense Forces. Deriving its name from the animal of the same name, "Skunk" is dispersed as a form of mist, fired from a water cannon, which leaves a terrible odor of rot or sewage on whatever it touches. It does not wash off easily and is said to linger on clothes for up to five years.[1] First attempts at developing a scent-based form of crowd control began in Israel in 2004; Skunk was first used for crowd control in September 2008.

According to David Ben Harosh, head of technological development for the Israeli police, the recipe is based entirely on natural organic ingredients, including yeast and baking powder, does not include any harmful materials, and may even be ingested without causing harm. The inventors plan to market Skunk to other forces worldwide. The development of Skunk followed numerous accusations against Israeli forces that they often employ disproportionate force in clashes with Palestinian protestors (e.g. using rubber bullets or tear gas), which has led them to seek new, non-lethal but effective methods of crowd control.

New Israeli Stink Bomb Provides Safe Way to Disperse Protesters

    By Matthew Harwood

    10/09/2008 -
Israeli defense scientists have designed a crowd control device that can effectively disperse protesters or rioters without causing any bodily harm. It's known as the Skunk.

In early August, the foul-smelling concoction was used by Israeli Border Guards to quell a demonstration protesting the construction of a separation fence in the West Bank village of Naalin. The Skunk had its intended effect, according to The Jerusalem Post. Once the stench enveloped the protesters, they fled the scene for a shower.

One journalist, Wyre Davies, of the BBC, described Skunk like this:

Imagine the worst, most foul thing you have ever smelled. An overpowering mix of rotting meat, old socks that haven't been washed for weeks - topped off with the pungent waft of an open sewer.

Imagine being covered in the stuff as it is liberally sprayed from a water cannon.

Then imagine not being able to get rid of the stench for at least three days, no matter how often you try to scrub yourself clean.

The beauty of Skunk - if beauty is the right word - is that it is said to be completely organic.

According to the BBC, Skunk does not contain illegal chemicals or proscribed substances—just yeast, baking powder, and other "secret" ingredients.

Superintendent David Ben Harosh told Davies that the putrid brew was safe enough to drink. Davies declined the offer.

    ....

Should be used on Occupy Wall Street protesters. Give them a taste of their own breath.

    ....

So, the Israelis are condemned for using a harmless means of crowd control.

    ....

"Moderate" "Palestinian" official: "I swear that if we had a nuke, we'd have used it this very morning"

      http://www.jihadwatch.org/2013/05/palestinian-official-i-swear-that-if-we-had-a-nuke-wed-have-used-it-this-very-morning.html
Note that these are "moderate" PA officials -- members of Abbas's government -- the one that Obama tells the Israelis is a true partner for peace. "Senior PA official praises murderer and another official swears: 'If we had a nuke, we'd have used it this very morning,'" by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik for Palestinian Media Watch, May 8:

      >>Two senior Palestinian Authority officials praised the use of violence against Israel last week.
Senior PA official Sultan Abu Al-Einein expressed his open support for the murderer who killed Evyatar Borovsky, an Israeli who was stabbed to death by Palestinian terrorist Salam Al-Zaghal while he was waiting for a ride.

Abu Al-Einein, who was until recently an advisor holding the rank of minister to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and who was subsequently appointed Head of the Palestinian Council for NGO Affairs by Abbas, honored the murderer:

"We salute the heroic fighter, the self-sacrificing Salam Al-Zaghal."

Abu Al-Einein also praised the murderer and his killing with the words:

"He insisted on defending his honor, so he went against the settler and killed him. Blessings to the breast that nursed Salam Al-Zaghal."

The audience applauded and whistled at this statement.

Last week, Palestinian Media Watch reported that only hours after the murder, the administrator of Fatah's official Facebook page glorified Al-Zaghal as a "hero."

Another senior PA official, Jibril Rajoub, also praised the use of violence against Israel. During an interview on a Lebanese TV channel, the host referred to "the negotiations game" with Israel, and Rajoub expressed the view that negotiations are held because the Palestinians lack military strength:

"I swear that if we had a nuke, we'd have used it this very morning."

Jibril Rajoub is the Deputy Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee and Chairman of the PA Olympic Committee. The interview was broadcast on the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen TV channel and also published on Rajoub's Facebook page on May 2, 2013.

Senior PA officials often state that avoiding violent confrontation or war with Israel is only temporarily, due to the PA's inability to take on such a conflict. They claim that negotiations with Israel are the right course of action for now, because conditions are not right for violence.<<

  3. When police were questioned about why all three defendants were not charged with felony second degree battery, Stubbs responded, "Because you have to have disfigurement for a second-degree battery charge, and only one victim had disfigurement and he was attacked by the one suspect that we booked."

However, Louisiana law defines second-degree battery as "bodily injury which involves unconsciousness, extreme physical pain or protracted and obvious disfigurement."

The victim suffered "a broken eye socket, broken nose, and several lacerations to the face," and his wife was knocked unconscious.

"I feel that's racist," said Henderson.

As to why officers only charged one suspect with second-degree battery, police said under former Police Chief Dewayne White, officers were told to take all offenders to prison. Towards the end of his term, the policy changed and officers were told to use discretion. That's the policy in place now.

As to whether this falls under a hate crime, police said early reports show it does not meet the statute but remains under investigation.

All three defendants, Dickerson, Bessye and Simmons, have had run-ins with the law prior to Sunday's incident.

I think it was a love crime.

    Then again, I'm a racist.

  6. BHO was conceived because of Selma.

...or at least he said he was:

"Check out the latest critism of Barack Obama's Selma, Al. speech yesterday where he credited the 1965 marchers with empowering his black father and white mother to marry.

Turns out he was born in 1961.

....he credited the "Bloody Sunday" civil rights marchers of 1965 with the fact that his parents -- a black African father and white Kansas mother -- were empowered to fall in love and got married.

"They looked at each other and they decided, 'We know that in the world, as it has been, it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child, but something is stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across the bridge.' And so they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Ala.!"

Obama was born in 1961; the Selma march was four years later. Obama said later that he meant to credit the entire civil rights movement with his parents' union, not just the Bloody Sunday marchers."

    ...yeah, that's what he meant.

    3. JERUSALEM, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Israel's Iron Dome interceptions of Palestinian rockets during eight days of Gaza fighting cost $25 million to $30 million, the government said on Thursday, arguing the U.S.-backed system was well worth the money.

"Were Iron Dome traded on the (Tel Aviv) stock exchange or Nasdaq, it would have multiplied its share value several times over," Civil Defence Minister Avi Dichter told Israel Radio in an interview where he outlined the system's outlay.

Using radar-guided interceptor missiles, Israel's five truck-towed Iron Dome batteries shot down 421 of some 1,500 rockets launched from the Gaza Strip between Nov. 14 and Wednesday's Egyptian-brokered truce, the military said.

It put Iron Dome's success rate at 90 percent. To lower costs, the system engages only rockets that threaten populated areas, though it often fires two interceptor missiles at once.

  9. In AP surveillance case, the real scandal is what’s legal

Blackmun’s reasoning may have turned on the fact that automatic dialing was a relatively new development in 1979. Previously, telephone users had to tell a human operator which number they wished to reach, making it plausible to regard the phone company as an active participant in the phone-dialing process, but a mere passive conduit in transmitting the phone call itself.

Technological progress has rendered this distinction increasingly dubious. For example, cell phone companies now keep records about the locations of their customers’ phones. The government has argued that this “non-content” information should be available without a warrant. Yet such records amount to a detailed record of everywhere the phone’s owner has been in the past month; a much more intrusive form of surveillance than a list of the phone numbers a customer has dialed.

The third party doctrine also suggests that the users of cloud e-mail providers don’t even enjoy Fourth Amendment protections in the contents of their messages, since those have been voluntarily shared with third parties such as Google and Microsoft. One appeals court has ruled that a warrant is required, but so far most other courts have not followed that precedent.

Journalists get a bit of a special deal here. The government has established special policies to guard against inappropriate surveillance of reporters. Before an FBI agent can seek a journalist’s call records, they must get special approval from the attorney general. But that’s merely a Justice Department policy, not a constitutional requirement. The policy could be changed in the future, and the lack of independent oversight makes abuses more likely.

The rest of the country doesn’t get even the modest procedural protection the government affords to journalists. The FBI likely didn’t need a warrant to obtain e-mail records that led to the identification of Paula Broadwell as the mistress of Gen. David Petraeus last year. Police officers have become increasingly aggressive in seeking records about the locations of suspects’ cell phones.

Merely adding more safeguards for journalists’ call records won’t fix the underlying problem. As more and more information about us is held by third parties, the court’s cramped interpretation of the Fourth Amendment leaves ordinary Americans with less and less privacy. People may or may not have expected the numbers they dialed to be private in 1979. But they certainly consider the contents of their Gmail accounts and the locations of the cell phones to be private information today.

The review included interviews with groups or their representatives from Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas and elsewhere.

The long-awaited report Treasury Department inspector general report released Tuesday says the agency itself decided some of its questions to conservative groups were way over the line – especially the one about donors.

  15. While it is true that the IRS seems to have crossed the Rubicon, the problem is structural, more than it is political.

Why have the IRS empowered to "look" at political groups?

“What has been missed in the outrage is the recognition that this problem arose from much deeper sources than the poor judgment or possible partisan bias of a handful of IRS employees,” says Lloyd Mayer, a law professor at the University of Notre Dame, in an e-mail.

“Congress has given the IRS the difficult task of applying an incredibly vague definition of political activity and an uncertain standard for how much political activity tax-exempt social welfare organizations may engage in.”

Social-welfare organizations should not be allowed to engage in politics. But the SCOTUS disagrees.

  16. (Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday he had ordered the FBI to open a criminal probe in a growing scandal over the Internal Revenue Service's targeting of conservative political groups for extra tax scrutiny.

Holder's announcement came about four hours before an inspector general's report on the IRS portrayed the tax agency as plagued by disarray and "insufficient oversight" during its struggles to review the cases of hundreds of advocacy groups that claimed they should be tax exempt.

The audit, which drew some backlash from IRS officials, also underscored what the agency had acknowledged last Friday: that the IRS had used "inappropriate criteria" for evaluating tax-exempt groups, in part by singling out scores of conservative Tea Party and "Patriot" organizations for increased scrutiny.

The report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration sharply criticized the way the IRS had screened the conservative groups, citing poor management and processing delays. The report suggested that such practices could damage public confidence in the agency.

The criteria used to target the conservative groups "gives the appearance that the IRS is not impartial in conducting its mission,"

Advocacy groups, given the SCOTUS ruling, should no longer be tax exempt.

    The Still-Forgotten Obama Lie

    >>>>That this digital document is a forgery has been proved beyond question. Various experts have proved its fakery on different levels:

    • Photoshop author and instructor Mara Zebest (along with other researchers) has shown how this digital fake was constructed in Photoshop from digital snippets of images. (My favorite: Photoshop reveals that the Alvin T. Onaka rubber-stamp image was scaled 24% and rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise before being added to the fake.)

    • Typographer Paul Irey has demonstrated that typefaces from at least three different typewriters were used in constructing this fraud.

    • The only official government investigation of this fake, by Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio's investigators, concluded that the digital Obama "birth certificate" is definitely a forgery (along with Obama's draft card).

    • I have shown how the supposedly typed letters in the forgery fail to line up vertically, as they must in a genuine typed document, and how the mother's signature, "Stanley Ann Dunham Obama," was composed of three different handwritten images, each made with a different pen. (To see my research, look for "Nick Chase" in the archives by author on the American Thinker website, and the articles will pop up.)

So the conclusions of the experts are definitive: it's a forgery. If you have not yet recognized this truth, then you are waiting for acceptance -- for a lot of people to agree with you -- so you won't be attacked as a raving lunatic should you dare to bring up the subject.<<<<

    3. ExamplesMade by Northrop Grumman:
On March 18, 2009 Northrop Grumman announced that its engineers in Redondo Beach had successfully built and tested an electric laser capable of producing a 100-kilowatt ray of light, powerful enough to destroy cruise missiles, artillery, rockets and mortar rounds.[12] An electric laser is theoretically capable, according to Brian Strickland, manager for the United States Army's Joint High Power Solid State Laser program, of being mounted in an aircraft, ship, or vehicle because it requires much less space for its supporting equipment than a chemical laser.[13]
On April 6, 2011, the U.S. Navy successfully tested a laser gun, manufactured by Northrop Grumman, that was mounted on the former USS Paul Foster, which is currently used as the navy's test ship. When engaged during the test that occurred off the coast of Central California in the Pacific Ocean test range, the laser gun was documented as having "a destructive effect on a high-speed cruising target," said Chief of Naval Research Admiral Nevin Carr.[14] While classified, the range of the laser gun is attributed to miles, not yards.
Northrop Grumman has announced the availability of a high-energy solid-state laser weapon system that they call FIRESTRIKE, introduced on 13 November 2008. The system is modular, using 15 kW modules that can be combined to provide various levels of power.

The USSR and the USA very strategy was based on using nukes on civilian populations.

So do not "label" me with your comments about nukes trying to make what I say pejorative.

I advocate the military of some unnamed nation, taking out the Ka'aba with some sort of permanence. Use of a precison nuke, a high energy laser from space or kidnapping the rock and sending it into the sun all have merit.

The reason for such a wanton lust for destruction?

I advocate the only cure for the islamic mind is forced evolution.

By destroying one of the 5 pillars of Islam it will force them to re-think that "islam and it's ways" are undefeatable. And that "reformation" must occur..

The elimination of one of the 5 pillars is such an act.

Now before you get your panties in a wad and query? How would like that to happen to you?
I'd point you to the destruction of the Temple, 2 times...

However, I am not convinced it would work, so I am with Quirk there. Might really piss them off, make things worse.

I believe WiO has not advocated mass killings here. He has not advocated nuking Riyad, Saudi Arabia forinstance. He is advocating nuking an inanimate object, a rock, the idea being that the destruction of a main symbol would collapse the 'religion'.

    The Lesser of Syria’s Evils

Top Israeli military and intelligence analysts are divided over which side to back in Syria’s civil war

    By Jonathan Spyer|May 14, 2013 12:00 AM

    >>>The civil war in Syria has led to a keen debate among the professional echelon tasked with advising policymakers in Israel. This debate has been reflected in a more subdued public conversation and occasionally in spectacular events—like the bombing of Syrian military sites around Damascus. So, what are the dividing lines in this Israeli debate? Does Israel back any side in the war in Syria? And what would be an optimal outcome from the Israeli point of view?.......

.....With the civil war showing no signs of ending any time soon, and the country separating into separate and hostile enclaves, it appears that a quiet strategy of ensuring a strong presence of non-Salafi, Western-supported fighters in the area of the Jordanian and Israeli borders is under way. It is likely that the low-level communication and the treatment of wounded Syrian rebels by Israel is part of this. There are currently no signs of Israel being drawn further into a more overt implementation of this strategy, and it is likely that neither Israel nor the rebels in question would want this.

Ultimately, Israeli policy on Syria derives from the familiar combination of limited political/diplomatic possibilities and military superiority. The deep-rooted rejection of the legitimacy of Israel’s existence is common to both sides of the Syrian civil war and is ubiquitous in the Arabic-speaking world and among the Iranian leadership. This rejection shapes and limits Israel’s options as an actor on the regional stage. Even with the leading Sunni states opposed to Iran, interaction and cooperation are necessarily covert and limited—and the growth of Sunni political Islam as a result of the “Arab spring” has only exacerbated this reality.

In such circumstances, Israeli options are reduced to the basic need to ensure the security of its citizens and deter enemies. It appears that Moshe Dayan’s famous dictum that “Israel has no foreign policy, only a defense policy” continues to hold, at least in Israel’s immediate neighborhood.<<<

There doesn't seem to be a hint anywhere is this article about any plot of the perfidious Jews mounting attacks in Syria so as to draw the United States into another mid-east war on their behalf, as some here have alleged.

  50. Holder: I can’t remember when I recused myself from the AP investigation, and I know I didn’t do it in writing

    Sounds legit.

Twitter is blowing up over this right now. Stand by for updates.

Update: Gabe Malor asks an excellent question:

If there's no written record of recusal, who told DAG Cole that he was running the AP investigation?

Did Holder just sort of … “drift away” from this whole mess after his recusal? Remember, this was no ordinary investigation. Yesterday Holder himself called the leak in the AP case one of the most serious, if not the most serious, he’d ever seen. He must have recognized instantly that there was a chance that reporters’ phone records would be subpoenaed to get to the bottom of it, which would be politically explosive for the White House. And yet he never formally notified anyone that he was backing away, huh? At this point, Obama should fire him even if he’s telling the truth.

Update: Holder says he had to recuse himself because he was a “fact witness”:

The attorney general recused himself because he was interviewed as a “fact witness” — “a possessor of the information that was ultimately leaked” — meaning that he could theoretically have leaked the information about the thwarted terrorist attack that was the subject of the AP report.

If they were looking at Holder as a potential leaker, the leak must have come from very high up. That jibes with Holder’s rhetoric about the seriousness of the situation; they must be looking at someone at or near the cabinet level, potentially, as the AP’s source.

Wouldn’t the AG be a potential “fact witness” in lots of leak cases, though, given the sensitive info he’s privy to? Why recuse himself in this particular case?

Update: Dave Weigel points to this DOJ press release last summer in which Holder announced he was assigning attorneys to lead the leak investigation. That would have been the moment to announce his recusal, but there’s nothing in there about that.

Obvious question: Did he refuse to recuse himself publicly from an explosive national-security investigation because that would have made for particularly bad headlines five months before the election?

Update: More good news from CNS: Holder’s not 100 percent sure which deputy AG actually authorized the AP subpoenas. Simply amazing.
