COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

  3. Whoa! If you didn't go all mid-life-crisis a few months ago and take down the entire side bar, this would be my post for the year. My all time favorite

Peace on earth, can it be...

    One can always hope.

  4. I will address the so called gun show loop hole (doesn't exist) tomorrow when I am not on my confounded iPhone. It is a beautiful night in North Texas. I am sitting next to my fire pit with my bride sipping on a nice chianti. Peace out.

    2. Good God Rufus, you're silly. People buy guns, at least here, out of the newspaper all the time. And there is always an underground market that would spring up if the need arose. You've about as much chance of controlling gun sales as you have of controlling that home brew swill you make and drink illegally. Besides, it is easy to make a gun if you need too. As easy as fermenting barley.

I didn't have any "brownies, or magic dust," but it went nicely with my Charter and Coke. :)

  7. Ah, Deuce, I think we found a justification for your favorite government program.

    1. We're fortunate. We are tucked in behind Jupiter and Saturn which over the millions of years have sucked up much of the space junk with their huge gravities. Otherwise, we might not be here.

Barky will not do anything about this. NASA is now for outreach to barbarians, haven't you heard?

Like all the other of his programs, utterly idiotic.

I am working up to giving a medical report on my friend D. The VA has really screwed his pooch. He may well be gone before he even gets any chemo. Or, they may just tell him it's hopeless, the hell with it.

Total bureaucratic folly and misdiagnosis and malpractice from the git-go, he is going through what everyone will go through with NoCare.

  9. Two competent Doctors took two days to correctly diagnose two problems fiddled over for 6 years by two clowns for her stomach problem, and six months for a misdiagnosed "back problem" which turned out to be a metastisis on her leg.

...leading to so many opiates for her leg pain (cancer still produces "break through" pain from time to time that the opiates can't touch)

The opiates completely stopped her digestive tract, leading to starvation.
That, plus opiates, plus anesthesia, proved fatal.

    Completely unnecessary:

The head of radiology said the pain would start to subside after the first or second treatment!

The first treatment was scheduled for the next day, but never happened as vital systems shut down from the drugs and malnourishment.

As BHO says, "Sometimes it's better to take a pill."

Saves money for all those important things he spends it on.
...all of which kick back a pretty penny or two to The Won.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

    Washington Square

I'm writing a letter to say I still care

And I wish you would hear it's Christmas

And it's way past the ???

I'm saying a prayer I can picture you here last Christmas

I know you're so far from home

But you know that you're never alone

I know you're so far away

Till you're home safe again I'll just pray

    Oh, it's Christmas again

But it won't be without you

    Oh, it's Christmas again

    I'm so lonely without you

I'm turning my collar to the cold and the wind

    Till you're home safe again

    And it's Christmas

We're saving your present, it's under the tree

When you're with me, you'll see

    It's Christmas

I know you're so far away

But you know that I still feel the same

I know you're so far from home

But no matter how far, you're never alone

    Oh, it's Christmas again

But it won't be without you

    Oh, it's Christmas again

    I'm so lonely without you

    I'm so lonely without you

    I'm so lonely without you

  14. Several conservative House Republican members are contemplating a plan to unseat Speaker John Boehner from his position on January 3, Breitbart News has exclusively learned. Staffers have compiled a detailed action plan that, if executed, could make this a reality.

The Republicans, both conservatives and more establishment members alike, are emboldened after the failure of Boehner’s fiscal cliff “Plan B” on Thursday evening. Dissatisfaction with Boehner is growing in the House Republican conference, but until now there hasn’t been a clear path forward.

Those members and staffers requested anonymity from Breitbart News at this time to prevent retaliation from Boehner similar to what happened to those four members who were purged from their powerful committee assignments a few weeks ago. Their expressed concern is that if Boehner knew who they were, his adverse reaction toward them would be much more brutal than losing committee assignments, such as a primary challenge in 2014 by a leadership-sponsored candidate.

  15. Today we should reflect on the warmth of the sun and know how fortunate we are of its return.

The sun returns! The light returns!
The earth begins to warm once more!
The time of darkness has passed,
and a path of light begins the new day.
Welcome, welcome, the heat of the sun,
blessing us all with its rays

    Peace
