Global engineering company Chemtex made announcements Oct. 13 about two separate cellulosic ethanol projects—one under construction in northern Italy and the second planned in Brazil.

Chemtex, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mossi & Ghisolfi Group, broke ground April 12 on a 13 MMgy cellulosic ethanol plant in Crescentino, Italy, which is expected to begin production sometime around June. Now, Chemtex and M&G have a joint venture with TPG Capital and TPG Biotech, forming BETA Renewables. The newly formed company has been established to exclusively license Chemtex’s trademarked Proesa technology, a biomass pretreatment and hydrolysis process that produces high-quality and low-cost sugars for conversion to ethanol or biochemicals.

TPG and M&G will invest total capital of 250 million Euros (about $344.5 million) into BETA Renewables. M&G will hold a majority stake. The pilot plant, also located in Northern Italy, will also be transferred to BETA Renewables. The pilot plant has been operating since 2009 and produces about 335 gallons of cellulosic ethanol daily, said Dennis Leong, executive vice president of marketing and business development for Chemtex.

BETA Renewables will initially focus on biofuels, followed by new bio-chemical process in development to replace petroleum-based chemicals . . . . . .

  3. They've been picking cotton over here for a couple of days, now. Man, they can "get'er done." When a field is ready, all they need is a dry day, and it's a wrap.

Pretty good crop this year. Not "all stalk" like it was last year. Big, fluffy bolls, and lots of them.

China let the price of corn get down to around $5.50, and came in and bought "A Ton." Huge Order last week.

And, we're paying farmers NOT to plant 30,000,000 Acres.

Drop that 1.8L ecoboost (200 hp) with a true ethanol sensor in the fuel line (like Ford used to use,) and a block heater (like they use in Sweden) into my Impala, and I'd be getting 30 mpg, with plenty of power, on a fuel made from corn stalks, and switchgrass, that can be produced, taxed, and sold for $3.00/Gallon at the pump.

$0.10 a Mile, and not a damned dollar going out of state.

  9. Whoah! Jump back.

I was surprised a couple of weeks ago to find out that the local farmers were getting pretty good yields on their corn. I mean, this year was too hot, too dry, for too long to have expected that.

Of course, poor little ol' Mississip doesn't raise much corn; it was what happened when the harvestors got going in Nebraska, and Iowa that was to make the difference.

Well, the word from "Nebraska" is in, and, it's a Stunner. Record Yields

You see, there is One thing we do better than anyone else in the world, By Far. Bio-genetics. It's the Seeds. The New Hybrids handle drought better than ever before. Hot and Dry is still bad, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Of course, Nebraska does irrigate quite a lot. Iowa will "tell the tale." it always does.

Last American Who Knew What The Fuck He Was Doing Dies

"We haven't just lost a great innovator, leader, and businessman, we've literally lost the only person in this country who actually had his shit together and knew what the hell was going on," a statement from President Barack Obama read in part, adding that Jobs will be remembered both for the life-changing products he created and for the fact that he was able to sit down, think clearly, and execute his ideas—attributes he shared with no other U.S. citizen. "This is a dark time for our country, because the reality is none of the 300 million or so Americans who remain can actually get anything done or make things happen. Those days are over." Obama added that if anyone could fill the void left by Jobs it would probably be himself, but said that at this point he honestly doesn’t have the slightest notion what he’s doing anymore.

Just look at the redshirts strategically peppered throughout the crowd. This is what you see at EVERY Left wing rally. Who prints their supposedly grassroots signs? Who printed up the supposedly grassroots tee shirts? Those signs and those commie tee shirts aren’t just accidental. The retail phrases like “99%” and “Occupy” and “Moveon” are not accidents or happenstance – they are all careful, deliberate branding, orchestrated by other “community organizers” exactly like the cancerous tumor metastasizing in the White House.

Replace "branding orchestrated by other community organizers"with astroturf. Replace redshirts with brown shirts. Replace commie with fascist or nazi. And you could be looking at Pelosi, Reid and much of the left's whack job commentators response to the Tea party rallies a year ago.

    All of a kind.

Nitwits and pencil-dicks whose response to politics they don't like is "They don’t just need to be opposed at the ballot box. They are a tumor which requires removing."

Curiously, the only point universally agreed upon by the protesters and their admirers in the Democratic Party and the mainstream media is that "Occupy Wall Street" should be compared to the tea party. Yes, that would be the same tea party that has been denounced and slandered by the Democratic Party and the mainstream media for the last three years.

As a refresher: The Democratic National Committee called the tea partiers "angry mobs" and "rabid right-wing extremists."

ABC said they were a "mob." CNN accused them of "rabble rousing."

Harry Reid called them "evil mongers." Nancy Pelosi said they were "un-American."

CNN's Anderson Cooper and every single host on MSNBC called the tea partiers a name that referred to an obscure gay sex act.

Cantor retreats from ‘mob’ comment about Occupy Wall Street movement

Asked repeatedly about his criticism last week of the movement as a “growing mob,” Cantor on Tuesday declined to repeat the phrase, instead telling reporters at his weekly pen-and-pad briefing that he understood the protesters’ frustrations.

“There’s no question there’s a lot of focus on some of the gatherings and the protests in this town, New York and other places,” Cantor said. “People are upset, and they’re justifiably frustrated. They’re out of work. The economy is not moving. Their sense of security for the future is not clear at all. People are afraid and I get it.”

El Paso, Texas (CNN) -- A brigade of U.S. troops originally scheduled to be among the very last to leave Iraq is being pulled out of the country months ahead of its planned departure, military officials said Saturday.

The announcement follows news this month that a deal to keep American troops in Iraq past a December 31, 2011, deadline to withdraw was on shaky ground after Iraqi leadership said any remaining U.S. forces would not be granted immunity from Iraqi prosecution. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and other top brass have repeatedly said any deal to keep U.S. troops in Iraq beyond the withdrawal deadline must require a guarantee of legal protection for American soldiers.

The Fourth Brigade Combat Team, First Armored Division, based at Fort Bliss, deployed to Iraq in August to replace two withdrawing brigades. The troops were sent with the understanding they would be among the last to leave the country and were told to expect up to a 12-month deployment, though it wasn't clear how long they would stay in Iraq. But brigade officials informed hundreds of military families gathered Saturday at its headquarters that their troops would begin returning home within weeks.

  45. Enhanced oil recovery, or EOR, fits very well with solar temperatures, Glasspoint Vice President John O’Donnell, said today in an interview.

Some 32 percent of California’s industrial and commercial gas use is for EOR as its use grows in the U.S. and all over the world, O’Donnell said. The state produces about 40% of its oil using EOR and in a few years that will grow to 60%, he said.

The company can produce heat for EOR for about $3 per million British thermal units, compared with about $4 for a comparable natural-gas plant in the U.S. and between $10 to $12 for other conventional solar thermal technologies, O’Donnell said. “We are the only ones below natural gas right now in the U.S.”

According to BCC Research, the global market for enhanced- oil-recovery technologies was $4.7 billion in 2009 and is expected to grow at a 5-year compound annual rate of 28 percent, reaching $16.3 billion in 2014, BrightSource said in its statement.

The company said that the Rio Mesa Solar Electric Generating Facility will use its solar tower technology, where a field of mirrors reflects light onto a tower to create steam that drives a turbine to generate electricity. The project would generate enough electricity to power more than 300,000 homes, BrightSource said.

The plan calls for installing three towers able to generate 250 megawatts each (before accounting for the energy consumed by their operation).

BrightSource earlier this year began construction of the Ivanpah Solar power project, where the company had to cut back on the amount of land it planned to use and monitor the health of the endangered desert tortoise at the location. The Rio Mesa proposal calls for using a taller tower, which will allow project developers to place its sun-tracking mirrors, called heliostats, more densely onto the available land.

The location is in Riverside County, where most of the land had been owned by the Metropolitan Water District and some by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The site is close to high-voltage transmission lines, which is a crucial consideration, . . .
