It is in personal relations where the dual nature of the Scorpio is evident. Scorpios are normally highly committed to their long-term relationships. They are loyal and devoted mates. On the other hand, they can be flirtatious. This tendency is driven by ego, the desire to manipulate situations, a genuine curiosity about others, and an effort to explore motivations. It is another instance of the Scorpio trying to shake things up. When push comes to shove; however, they are typically committed and loyal to their partners.

Out of many, one. That could well be the motto of this ambitious exhibition. It focuses on “the three Abrahamic religions” — Judaism, Christianity and Islam — each of which takes as a forebear an “itinerant herdsman” of the Middle East, Abraham, who affirmed belief in a single God. As the show puts it, Abraham rejected “the religions of antiquity with their plethora of gods, each imbued with a particular attribute, purpose and power,” replacing the many with the one.

And such revelations shape groups of believers by being incorporated in canonical written texts: the Hebrew Bible, the Christian Gospels, the Islamic Koran.
Though the exhibition does not point this out, the connection between monotheism and such texts is no accident. Once multiple divinities are discarded, along with their rivalries and conflicting powers, religion is concerned with just two poles: the human and the divine. Religious events take place not on Mount Olympus or in some imagined godly castle, but in the earthly realm. Religious history becomes fully part of human history. And the telling of that history, along with commentary and reinterpretation, becomes an aspect of the religion itself. These faiths are historical faiths.

Twelve tours may be unusual, but multiple tours — three, four, five — are absolutely normal. We don’t have enough volunteers to fight these endless wars. Americans are big on bumper stickers, and they like to go to sports events and demonstrate their patriotism by chanting, “U-S-A! U-S-A!” But actually putting on a uniform and going into harm’s way? No thanks.
Sergeant Vogeler was married and the father of two children, and his wife was expecting their third.

Walker's World: Obama is losing India
WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- The Obama administration is trying to play catch-up in its relations with the country that could become its most important long-term ally. But it may be leaving it too late, after India last week agreed a $7 billion deal in arms, nuclear reactors and space technology with Russia.
India's strategic importance can hardly be exaggerated. More than just the other Asian economic giant after China, India is a democracy where English is an official language. It shares with Washington the same love-hate attitude toward China, hopeful but deeply suspicious at the same time. And with a much healthier demographic profile than China, most extrapolations of long-term trend suggest that India's economy will outgrow China's by the second half of this century.
U.S. President Barack Obama himself seems to have understood this. The first state dinner he hosted was for India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. And then were strong foundations on which to build. His Democratic predecessor Bill Clinton had started the courtship of India in the 1990s and President George W. Bush's commitment to India was one of the few successes of his troubled foreign policy.
Bush's legacy was a nuclear cooperation agreement, which allowed India to escape the nuclear isolation into which it was plunged after testing a nuclear weapon outside the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Bush's deal also opened the way for the United States to sell nuclear power stations, fuel and other technology to India and to forge a lasting strategic partnership.
But for a host of reasons the Obama administration has let India slip down the list of its priorities. Not all of these reasons relate to Islamic terrorism, the war in Afghanistan and consequent urge to focus on Pakistan.
I heard it said that compared to the Bush Administration, the Indians feel ignored by Obama.
Especially if the Somali pirates were to kill those 17 crew members.

Military service is not heroic. Very, very few achieve hero status and when it comes, it is with a fearful cost.
If a recruit completes his obligation without being killed or maimed, it is a great experience.
The basic need for a military is a permanently imperfect world, a dangerous world with permanent adversaries, because human being are adversarial.
The impetus to perfect the world must come from below. It will never come from the elites that rule.
Military service should not be based on careers. It should be a temporary duty with a small cadre of career officers and NCO's.
The enlisted corps should be universally composed of draftees, male, unmarried and with a minimal amount of dependents. They should be well trained, underpaid and the majority encouraged to leave after four years of service.
No family benefits should be made available to anyone under an E-5. And anyone not recommended to being promoted to an E-5 should be made to leave after four years.

Respect might be a little strong but I am awed by Q's wit, which is well on the right side of the bell curve. I always assume that one does very well in life with that particularly valued talent, unless of course, the mouth gets out of control on a regular basis. Then you're fucked like the rest of us.

With the cities came specialization, the first cubism---am I right Quirk--a complex situation---and then---the rock art vanished---we have that out here, you wouldn't believe how much all up and down the rivers---but then all this meaningful scribbling was replaced by --- the bounded form--which is what we now think of as art--a representation of an individual--or a situation--that was never really thought of before--or if not, the means of the idea were lacking before.
If you like art, thank bob, who doesn't know art in the visual form from his ass.

For the study, researchers at Osaka International University and Kobe University in Japan recruited a pool of trained athletes, male and female, as well as an age- and gender-matched group of untrained volunteers. A bit off topic, but $440,000 for a Medical License (the education to earn one) does not sound like a crazy expense. It’s about the cost of a midrange grain harvester, or a bull dozer and dump truck. The key difference is the Lic. is not a transferable asset. On the plus side it (the knowledge) can’t be stolen.

Student loans are Federalized — rather completely, by now.
Obama has us going to single payor — government — which will kick in enough $$$ to permit the loans to be paid back to itself.
Obamacare thus is more towards communism than socialism: the regs are professionally totalitarian.
Hence, the scope of work and payment thereon is going to be by dictat.

I view the current 'student loan' imbroglio as a mixed bag. First, from what I know of the situation, I'm glad to see the government pulled the administration of student loans in-house.
First, they had some government agencies doing the same work already. From what I read it seemed like the additional workload would be absorbed without hiring additional people.
Second why pay the banks for pushing paper? That's all they were doing. A payoff from the GOP. Allowing them to dip their beaks. Maybe it's my contempt for everything associated with bankers and banking right now but I'm inordinately happy to see them lose at least one small leg of the free ride.
However, that's where my support for the program ends. Doctors? Hell, the administration was pushing to allow for the cancellation of the loans to those who went into service (cops, firemen, etc.) and government jobs. I assume the provisions passed.
These sweet heart deals to the unions must be (at a minimum, should be) illegal. This is were there should be some lawsuits started.
You can't call this anything else but what it is, an 'industial policy'. The problem is that it is misguided. Any advantage you might possibly gain in aditional doctors is more than offset by the additional government workers.
Felix Frankfurter wrote, "It was a wise man who said that there is no greater inequality than the equal treatment of unequals."
A great point. But an equally pertinant one is that there is no greater evil than to provide unequal benefits to equals to gain political advantage.

The common thread is that reality is finally and belatedly starting to assert itself, and we have produced and empowered a generation of political and cultural leaders who simply have never dealt with reality and cannot do so, now.
In their world, to state something, as long as it is approved by ***teh right people, is to make it so. They said, “Pass the health care bill and everyone will love it before the election,” for which there was zero evidence and plenty of evidence to teh contrary, buyt the votes fell in line.
“Pass the stimulus bill and unemployment won’t exceed 8%,” even tho it was obvious to anyone with eyes that (a) unemployment was going to get really bad, and (b) teh ARRA was a joke even if you accept Keynes.
Now, Geithner goes to the G-20 and tells everyone thay have to control their trade balances, as if (a) the US isn’t the main culprit because of our own policies, and (b) a country can do that on its own without setting hard quotas that would violate the WTO treaty. And, everyone snickered at him, as he deserved.
On and on… a bunch of isiot 3-year olds who think tehy can have whatever they want by wishing for it, and maybe throwing a tantrum.
The toughest thig is that at least as regards domestic economics, the solutions are simple and blindingly obvious, with a relatively narrow range of uncertainty where political give and take should occur. Stop spending monney on things that cannot be proven to work, esp those that after years of increased effort are manifest failures (e.g., most urban school districts; Head Start; the current structure of ag subsidies; NPR, NEH, NEA, CPB, and so on). Reform entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, TANF) to make them affordable, long-term, by a combination of means testing, strong incentives for the beneficiaries to act responsibly, and benefit reductions (in that order). Tax reform to make US corporations competitive and provide incentives for the most economically productive people to work more and to stop discouraging the hiring of people near the bottom who need a leg up. Plenty of details and there will be some pain, but

It is so far beyond disgusting, but “we the people” kept electing these clowns, year after year, decade after decade.
