Hitting back at your enemy is not contrary to my American ideals.

...9/11 was an enormous trauma to our country. The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course. I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year...

The assertive and confident America of 6 June 1944 does not exist. That America has passed into myth.

Obama, the people' choice, the elected one, relates to a country that is recently strange to me. I am not sure I can date the estrangement.

  4. The America of 6 June 1944 knew the enemy and had no guilt and angst about naming him, finding him and killing him. No demographic split there.

No American president has pissed on the graves at Normandy.

    Barack Hussein Obama in Cairo:

"As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam – at places like Al-Azhar University – that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.

I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America's story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, our second President John Adams wrote, "The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims." And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States. They have fought in our wars, served in government, stood for civil rights, started businesses, taught at our Universities, excelled in our sports arenas, won Nobel Prizes, built our tallest building, and lit the Olympic Torch. And when the first Muslim-American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same Holy Koran that one of our Founding Fathers – Thomas Jefferson – kept in his personal library."

That is Obama' affirmative action read on US history.

  5. "I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't. And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."

Listen up assholes, next time vote for an American.

...The Talmud tells us: "The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace."

I wonder what Google has to say about war and the Torah?

    ______________

According to the Talmud,18 Obligatory wars are those wars started in direct fulfillment of a specific biblical commandment, such as the obligation to destroy the tribe of Amalek in biblical times. Authorized wars are wars undertaken to increase territory or "to diminish the heathens so that they shall not march" which is, as explained below, a category of military action given different parameters by different authorities.19 Maimonides, in his codification of the law, writes that:

The king must first wage only obligatory wars. What is an obligatory war? It is a war against the seven nations, the war against Amalek, and a war to deliver Israel from an enemy who has attacked them. Then he may wage authorized wars, which is a war against others in order to enlarge the borders of Israel and to increase his greatness and prestige

  9. from my summer Baptist Bible school (school belong to the catholics and summers to the baptists) I remembered something about the Amalekites:

"Amalek was the grandson of Esau, the patriarch Jacob's twin brother. He was the son of Eliphaz and his concubine, Timna (Gen.36:12). The Amalekites were distinguished in the holy Scripture by two villainous characteristics: cruelty and cowardice. What makes the Amalekites particularly interesting is that these two characteristics are always glaringly present when an Amalekite is involved in any Biblical story. In every story in which an Amalekite is privileged to participate, the reader witnesses this extraordinarily evil people not only committing cruel acts, but at the same time committing those acts in an unashamedly cowardly manner. They were warriors, yes, but they were not noble warriors. They never fought a fair fight. "

Well, duece, hitting the enemy is still rightous, but you have misidentified the enemy.

The enemy is not Islam, but identifiable individuals, in Afpakistan.

Some US politicos said the responsibible enemies were in Iraq, but that turned out to be a determination derived from a false interpretation of the verifiable data sets. Seems intel interpretation is not always a "Slam Dunk".

Even now, after both the current and previous Presidents have tried to correct the false mind set that some of US have towards Islam, many of US fail to appreciate just how narrowly our enemy is being defined.

In Afpakistan and in Iraq, Islamic Republics are our answer to terrorism. Islam is our friend, our ally in Piece and Prosperity.

That is where both US Presidents have decided our interests lay, post 09-11-01.
We should get on board the bus.

  20. In all, government spending on benefits will top $2 trillion in 2009 — an average of $17,000 provided to each U.S. household, federal data show. Benefits rose at a 19% annual rate in the first quarter compared to the last three months of 2008.

The recession caused about half of the increase, according to the report. Unemployment insurance nearly tripled in the past year. The other half is the result of policies enacted during President George W. Bush's first term
    .

Following the 2001 recession — when costs normally decline — social spending soared to pay for the Medicare drug benefit, expanded health care for children and greater use of food stamps.

The safety net is working, advocates say.

"We're not seeing the hunger we saw in the 1930s because the food stamp program is doing what it's supposed to do," says Florida food stamp director Jennifer Lange.

What's driving the $209 billion increase in benefit costs from a year ago:

•Unemployment insurance. One-fourth of the extra spending covers jobless benefits, a program started in the Depression. The stimulus law, passed in February, increased benefits.

    • Social Security. The bad economy has prompted a 10%-15% jump in early retirements, the program's actuary says. A 5.8% increase took effect January 1. Bottom line: $55 billion in new costs.

    • Food stamps. Enrollment hit a record 33.2 million people in March, up 5.2 million from last year. The stimulus law boosted the size of the benefit. Average March benefit: $114 per person

Fri Jun 05, 06:42:00 AM EDT

I was sick of it five years ago, where were you?

And yet the blessed miracle of it is that, even given this speech, the Middle East has disappeared almost entirely from the Give a Shit radar of the American public. Sucking up most of the oxygen for the better part of a decade - or decades depending upon how you look at it - the whole argy bargy now grabs about as much interest as yesterday's lunch.

This is as it ought to be. This is as it will be again in South Asia, too. Moving conflicts of various sorts out of the limelight, once again reducing their profiles, spinning them down, this is the desired state of things. Getting there from here - and keeping the shit from hitting the fan to begin with - are the daily challenges.

It's a big world. We've got our fingers in so many pies. And the less the noise the better. Noise is unhealthy for the stability and flexibility of the system (though not fatal to it obviously). It is a remarkably stable one over time. Because it exists almost entirely below the fold.

    Partners in Sublime

Self-Styled Siren pays tribute to one of classic Hollywood's greatest odd couples, Sydney Greenstreet, he of the Edmund Wilson helium-filled, patrician girth, and Peter Lorre. Each time I see The Maltese Falcon I marvel at its playful self-reflexivity, the way everyone is consciously playing a part with Bogart's Sam Spade (himself throwing irate tantrums, then grinning as he strides down the hall at his own foxy histrionics) critiquing everyone's performance, including their bits of stage business. As when he teases Mary Astor about her transparently fidgety stalling tactics: "You're not gonna go around the room straightening things and poking the fire again, are you?" One of the most dazzling bits of inspired physical acting ever shot is when Greenstreet's Kaspar Gutman realizes the Falcon is fake and begins to totter, as if a stroke is coming on and he's about to topple from his own pedestal (his clammy skin looks marble), only to assume command of himself and, a few seconds later, pat himself down and chuckle at the cosmic humor of being foiled again in his neverending quest. (The low-angle camera makes the inner quake appear even more monumental.)

The thing is: Once our Advanced technologies get to Israel they seem to end up in China, Mos Skosche.

If those "Brilliant" Jewish Physicists want to develop advanced weapons for Israel let them go do it on the Israelis' dime.

If they're developed on MY tax dollar I want them to STAY HERE!

  30. Jewish scientists have developed advanced technologies for the US on the American dime, say anti-missile, because it gave the US the means to avoid compliance with SALT. It was simply business, not a freebee to the almighty Jewish lobby.

There is no point in arguing about the numbers and ethnicity, they are what they are. As to nationality, Jews come in every flavor.

Follow the money. You might be surprised at the substantial investment of American IT capital in Israel. Now, granted, this is in part because of the vulnerability of Taiwan to Chinese attack. That said, Dell is not investing a fortune here in Warner Robins, Georgia. Wonder why?

As to Israel selling out the US to China, I hardly think that poses a major threat, given the openness of our research facilities to blatant Chinese industrial/intellectual sabotage. The Chinese have no need for a Jewish middleman, when the US government is so helpful.

Thus, while he emphasizes the special relationship between the US and Israel he gently puts the latter on a par with Iran as entitled to civilian nuclear energy - "I understand those who protest that some countries have weapons that others do not. No single nations should pick and choose which nation holds nuclear weapons ... Iran, should have the right to access peaceful nuclear power if it complies with its responsibilities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty [NPT]. That commitment is at the core of the treaty. And it must be kept for all who fully abide by it. And I am hopeful that all countries in the region can share in this goal," is the operative paragraph, which even if it does not mention Israel directly certainly echoes Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent test-firing of her bombshell, the expectation that the country join the NPT.

AEHI taps experienced energy sector company to fund Idaho nuclear plant site
Source Capital Group Inc. has extensive experience funding energy-sector projects and will raise an estimated $70 million to primarily fund government license application process

Alternate Energy Holdings Inc., an investor-funded company seeking to build an advanced third-generation nuclear power plant in Elmore County, Idaho, has signed an agreement with Source Capital Group Inc. to raise money for the project.

The funds will cover land, water rights and engineering services to obtain Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval to construct and operate an advanced nuclear plant in Elmore County, Idaho, estimated to total some $70 million. Every company that has undertaken the NRC application process has successfully completed it and received a construction/operation license.

"This is a major step in the process to bring the first commercial nuclear plant to Idaho and the first advanced nuclear plant to the western US that is so in need of clean, low cost base load power to sustain industry and agriculture,” said company CEO Don Gillispie. “We are very pleased to have a company with Source Capital's experience in raising funds for energy projects on board."

Source Capital's Investment Banking Department has extensive experience in energy transactions including Initial Public Offerings, Private Placements, Project Finance, Master Limited Partnerships, Special Purpose Vehicles and Reverse Mergers. Source One has helped companies in traditional fossil exploration and production, as well as a broad spectrum of alternative and renewable energy companies, including Rock Energy and Enerlume Energy Corporation. The company is capable of providing financing from $5 million to $500 million.

“Mr. Gillispie and his team have an extensive background in the nuclear power industry and have developed a compelling plan to create a new and much needed energy source for the western United States,” said Richard Kreger, Senior Managing Director of Investment Banking for Source Capital. ‘We are excited to bring the merits of their vision to investors in an effort to ensure the success of this worthy project.”

David Harris, President of Source Capital Group, Inc., affirmed that “clean, low cost energy is one of the most vital areas of focus for our nation’s future. Source is pleased to have the opportunity to leverage its financial services expertise in the energy sector to raise capital for AEHI and this important initiative.”

A former offer from Silverleaf Partners of Utah was only applicable to a former proposed site in Owyhee County. Also, several large financial institutions have indicated an interest in financing the construction phase.

The Elmore County Commission in April heard more than four hours of testimony, most in favor of AEHI’s request to rezone land for the plant, with over 500 supporters packing the hearing room. On Monday, June 8, the commission will discuss and possibly vote on the rezone.

Present day Egypt and Syria would not exist had not the US repeatedly pressured corrupt Israeli governments to call off the IDF prior to the destruction, in detail, of the armed forces of these antagonists. Lebanon would not be what it is today had not the US government repeatedly insisted that Yasser Arafat be spared a well placed bullet to the head. Tragically, with the destruction of both Egypt and Syria and the neutralization of Lebanon, Jordan would be far stronger than it is today; indeed, it might have even regained its rightful claim to Saudi Arabia.

No, the government of the United States has been the best friend the Arabs have ever had. Mr. Obama is merely dispensing with the hogwash.

This is a chilling, ominous moment for the people of Israel, yet one best captured by an old Jewish jest. A rabbi was leaving his synagogue after several years of service and at the good-bye party he was accosted by an elderly woman. "Rabbi, we hate to see you go."

"Oh," murmured the cleric humbly. "I am sure my replacement will be just as good."

"Nah," snapped the old-timer. "There have been four rabbis over my years here, and each one was worse than the one before."

When Barack Obama promises the Muslims a new beginning, Israel has a pretty good idea who is going to bear the brunt.

Which leads us to another classic gag. After a magician performs, a man from the audience asks him how the tricks are done. "I can tell you," the trickster cracks, "but then I would have to kill you."

"Fine," the man answers. "Then tell my wife instead."

  58. I do not think that is accurate, whit, about the ethanol and Pakistan, as the article I ead wasquite specific.
    About exporting to the US.

Let's see if I can find that or another.

  59. rufus,

The idea was not to manage Egypt, Syria, or Lebanon; the idea was to destroy the armed forces that permitted these regimes to remain in power. Whether the new bosses would have been better than the old shall remain an unknown. However, they would have been different.

I am sure Israel could run the West Bank as well as it does Israel proper, were it not for the US State Department. Israel "runs" well over one-million of its own "Arab" citizens just fine.

    Pakistan Bio-Fuels
    Bio-Fuels 2007

    Approved by:
    James Dever, Agricultural Counselor
    U.S. Embassy

    Prepared by:
    Asmat Raza, Agricultural Specialist
    Report Highlights
    :

Pakistan’s sugar industry operates twenty-one distillery units, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons ethanol. Most distilleries produce hydrous ethanol. Last year, Pakistan produced and exported 36,500 tons of fuel grade ethanol, mostly to United States.

During the current year, fuel grade ethanol production is expected to decline due to lower global prices. Pakistan exported 165,406 tons of ethanol during 2006 and is projected to export 234,000 tons during the current year

Just hangin' around Paris, waiting for hubby?

Why wasn't Michelle is there front and center, showing them no American woman is going to be denied her rightfull place?

    She should have been.

  66. First Lady, Rat. It's traditional, don't you know. Though not exeactly elected, she should be representing YOU, putting her glowing face right in the face of the muslim world.

    And she should have, too.

Surely you don't want our First Ladies cringing in the background, afraid of some 7th century prejudice!

    Go America!

  67. She'll be there for the ceremonies tomorrow in France, Rat, representing YOU before the world, as she should.

  68. After all, a good part of the President's speech had to do with women's rights. But no Michelle, as a shining example of same, to be seen, not in the muslim world.

  69. We send Oprah into millions of homes around the whirled, every day, bob. That's enough representin'

No need for Michelle to go trampsing about on the Government dime. We have Billery for that. She was nominated and confirmed.

The First Lady hosts dinners at the White House, bob. Once upon a time she tried to redesign the Health Care system for the US.

After that fiasco the role of the First Lady was scaled way back. Seen, at a distance, not heard by the public.
Laura led the new way forward, for First Ladies. Michelle's sense of decorum sucks, or she'd not even own $500 sneakers.

She is not qualified to represent US, she was not elected, nor confirmed. She is a full time mom, now. Even gets her mother to help out.

  73. Jacqueline Kennedy made more international trips than any of her predecessors, both with the President and on her own: France, Austria, England, Greece, Venezuela and Colombia in 1961, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Italy and Mexico in 1962, Morocco, Italy, Turkey, Greece, France in 1963. On many of these trips, she forged personal friendship with world leaders, including France's Charles DeGaulle, India's Jawaharlal Nehru, Pakistan's Ayub Kahn, England's Edward McMillan, subtly furthering the interests of the President and the U.S. In South American nations, for example, she made speeches in Spanish hailing the promise of the Administration's Peace Corps.--

  85. The three crops benefit from each other. The maize provides a structure for the beans to climb, eliminating the need for poles. The beans provide the nitrogen to the soil that the other plants utilize and the squash spreads along the ground, monopolizing the sunlight to prevent weeds. The squash leaves act as a "living mulch," creating a microclimate to retain moisture in the soil, and the prickly hairs of the vine deter pests. Maize lacks the amino acids lysine and tryptophan, which the body needs to make proteins and niacin, but beans contain both and therefore together they provide a balanced diet.--

  89. How Obama's Cairo Speech Threw Israel Under the Bus

Yet another strong analysis of the President's weak speech -- this one from Yid with Lid:

President Obama's speech in Cairo was historic. No other President has gone to a foreign nation to so publicly throw a strong ally under the bus. Once again the President, pandered to the Muslim world by dissing Israel in a major way, he downplayed the role of terrorism, made Hamas look like a rowdy Boys Glee Club, called for the internationalization of Jerusalem, and used the Palestinian party line to describe the Israeli presence not only in the West Bank and Gaza but its VERY existence at all

    34. Derek:

    Mr. Ledeen,

Let me put it this way, Obama said muslims invented “algebra”. He is wrong. Muslims invented the pen. He is wrong. Muslims invented the magnetic compass. He is wrong. Muslims invented the astrolabe. He is wrong. Muslims invented printing. He is wrong. Finally, President Obama said, “And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.” After being wrong about all those easily verifiable facts, am I to believe he finally got one right ? Nope. He is wrong again. Charles ‘The Hammer” Martel agrees with me.

I’m glad you noticed that President Obama was wrong to credit muslims with those inventions. But, I think you missed the significance of his attempt. Why did Obama credit muslims with those inventions ? He did that to make the case that the islamic world has contributed much to benefit the world. Pens ? Printing ? Algebra ? So, according to Mr. Obama, without muslims, the world would literally be without reading, writing, and arithmetic. But, as you correctly pointed out, muslims didn’t invent those things. Obama counldn’t mention any great muslim inventions, because by and large, there aren’t any. His premise is destroyed. Muslims have not contributed much to the progress of civilization. That Obama was so wrong, on such basic facts, suggests an unfathomable ignorance about Islam.

Further more, I ask you, What is the pathology of a person who will look you in the eye, and say, “I invented pens, printing, and algebra.”, when that is not true ? Probably, it is someone who would deny the Holocaust. Probably, it is someone who would repeat the Holocaust.

    Derek

p.s. Obama will say a muslim built USA’s tallest building. He didn’t have the guts to say muslims also destroyed The World Trade Center Towers. He just referred to them as “attacks”.
