COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Mark Levin on Sal Alinsky (For Trish)

  1. The struggle is not over, for Team Obama, that is why the campaign is not over, why the volunteers are out knocking on doors.

    It's what they're good at, no reason to stop until the Agenda is passed, implemented and found wanting.

    Then there'll be time for "reform".

  2. This Piece of Shit-- I knew from the U of Washington. Went to one of his talks once, where half the folks in the room were fed agents, and the other half including me left, for the hell of it. He was nothing if not violent. So the wiki article leaves much to be desired. After being arrested on ratting on his comrades he drifted back to Berkeley. He's got a wife somewheres, or had, and a kid or two, or had, and basically makes one ashamed of the human race. Was always quoting Bertolt Brecht. All these assholes need real jobs.

  4. MY PAPA'S WALTZ

    The whiskey on your breath
    Could make a small boy dizzy;
    But I hung on like death;
    Such waltzing was not easy.

    We romped until the pans
    Slid from the kitchen shelf;
    My mother's countenance
    Could not unfrown itself.

    The hand that held my wrist
    Was battered on one knuckle;
    At every step you missed
    My right ear scraped a buckle.

    You beat time on my head
    With a palm caked hard by dirt,
    Then waltzed me off to bed
    Still clinging to your shirt.

    A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings.

    It was not a terrorist attack, however, but a photo opportunity for Air Force One, sources told the Post.

    President Obama was in Washington at the time, but the low-flying 747 circling the Statue of Liberty was one of the planes used as Air Force One, sources said.

  9. Maybe the footage of AF1 flying over a panicking NYC will be titled "America: Home of the Brave" What a mixed lot we are. We close schools for a little flu bug but leave the borders wide open.

  10. Lifestyle of Hobbits

    Hobbits are fond of an unadventurous bucolic life of farming, eating, and socializing. They enjoy at least seven meals a day, when they can get them – breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, and (later in the evening) supper. They like simple food such as bread, meat, potatoes, and cheese, have a passion for mushrooms, and also like to drink ale, often in inns – not unlike the English countryfolk, who were Tolkien's inspiration. The name Tolkien chose for one part of Middle-earth where the Hobbits live, "the Shire", is clearly reminiscent of the English shires. Hobbits also enjoy an ancient variety of tobacco, which they referred to as "pipe-weed", something that can be attributed mostly to their love of gardening and herb-lore.

    The Hobbits of the Shire developed the custom of giving away gifts on their birthdays instead of receiving them.[8] They use the term mathom for old and assorted objects, which are invariably given as presents many times over, or are stored in a museum (mathom-house).

    Some Hobbits live in "hobbit-holes", which were the original places where they dwelt underground. They were found in hillsides, downs, and banks. By the late Third Age, they were replaced by brick and wood houses, however, some older style Hobbit-holes are still in use by more established Shirefolk, such as Bag End and Great Smials. Like all Hobbit architecture, they are notable for their round doors and windows, a feature more practical to tunnel-dwelling that the Hobbits retained in their later structures.

    The Hobbits had a distinct calendar, every year started on a Saturday and ended on a Friday, with each of the twelve months consisting of thirty days. Some special days did not belong to any month- Yule 1 and 2 (New Years Eve & New Years Day) and three Lithedays in mid summer. Every fourth year there was an extra Litheday, most likely as an adaptation to ensure that the calendar stayed accurate. wiki

    Things could be worse.

    My photo is of a hobbit community on Lake Pond d' Oreille, clustered together for socializing, and for warmth in winter.

    After farming a few days a month in summer, in the evenings they fish from the porches of their little lake houses, and smoke their pipes. Not a real estate 'for sale' sign in sight.

    Take that certificate out from its hidey hole and wave it proudly for your fellow Americans to see, then frame it and display it next to your signed copy of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals in the Oval Office. The American people are getting in to this transparency thing.

  16. In Hobbitland they are very proud of their geneologies, somewhat like the Mormons, and never would think of hiding anything, goodness that wouldn't be right. Further they have their family trees prominently displayed over their fireplaces, unlike some folks we know.

    Given some of the policies and practices in Hawai'i, it's not difficult to see why the health of the reefs is slipping and why the fish population — a key barometer of a reef's vibrancy — is estimated by some scientists to be only one quarter of what it was 100 years ago.

    Lieberman said. "I have argued for some time that Israel has insufficient appreciation for the ‘Kremlin factor'. I intend to mend this gap."

    It's not clear whether this reflects official thinking in Israel, or just Lieberman's own dependence on the votes of Russian-speaking immigrants to Israel. But it is safe to say that Israeli foreign policy is going to be very different under the new government.

  22. U.S. presidential candidates run for office as if they would be free to act however they wish once elected. But upon election, they govern as they must.

    ...

    The manner in which Obama was trapped by reality is most clear with regard to international affairs. At the heart of Obama’s campaign was the idea that one of the major failures of the Bush administration was alienating the European allies of the United States.

    ...

    There are campaign promises, there is reality and there is public perception. All presidents must move from campaigning to governing; extremely skilled presidents manage the shift without appearing duplicitous.

  23. The U.S. government has extended financial support worth $15.4 billion to GM so far, and the automaker is trying to get more aid from the government by trimming costs. If GM fails to produce a restructuring plan satisfactory to the government by June 1, it will face bankruptcy.

    "Ahead of the Golden Week holiday season starting Wednesday, exporters will likely sell dollars for the yen for fear of further dollar depreciation against the yen," said Osamu Takashima, chief analyst of the global markets sales and trading division at the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ.

    Meanwhile, the euro lost ground against the dollar and the yen in anticipation of a further interest rate cut and unorthodox monetary easing measures by the European Central Bank, market watchers said.

  25. In these uncertain economic times, can America afford to fall behind in the international goat-cloning race?

    ...

    The Associated Press, a reliable source of goat-related news in these uncertain economic times, revealed on April 16 that Iran claims to have joined the elite goat-cloning club.

    I went and took a look at them. They were really beautiful, you know, as mules go :)

    Zhao will also lecture today about three ethics arguments within the field of stem-cell research: human embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning and the possible use of stem cells from skin cells.

    "My role is to (lecture) on what are stem cells about," she said. "People either get very excited or very offended.

    Go back over the closing chapters of The Lord of the Rings, Bob. Their swords came in quite handy. They kind of established their own 2nd Amendment rights in the Shire when they returned home and found the usurpers making a mess of things. What's wrong with going around half naked? I've always thought that was the reason to own 5 acres of pines, oaks and manzanita.
