A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings.

It was not a terrorist attack, however, but a photo opportunity for Air Force One, sources told the Post.
President Obama was in Washington at the time, but the low-flying 747 circling the Statue of Liberty was one of the planes used as Air Force One, sources said.

Hobbits are fond of an unadventurous bucolic life of farming, eating, and socializing. They enjoy at least seven meals a day, when they can get them – breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, and (later in the evening) supper. They like simple food such as bread, meat, potatoes, and cheese, have a passion for mushrooms, and also like to drink ale, often in inns – not unlike the English countryfolk, who were Tolkien's inspiration. The name Tolkien chose for one part of Middle-earth where the Hobbits live, "the Shire", is clearly reminiscent of the English shires. Hobbits also enjoy an ancient variety of tobacco, which they referred to as "pipe-weed", something that can be attributed mostly to their love of gardening and herb-lore.
The Hobbits of the Shire developed the custom of giving away gifts on their birthdays instead of receiving them.[8] They use the term mathom for old and assorted objects, which are invariably given as presents many times over, or are stored in a museum (mathom-house).
Some Hobbits live in "hobbit-holes", which were the original places where they dwelt underground. They were found in hillsides, downs, and banks. By the late Third Age, they were replaced by brick and wood houses, however, some older style Hobbit-holes are still in use by more established Shirefolk, such as Bag End and Great Smials. Like all Hobbit architecture, they are notable for their round doors and windows, a feature more practical to tunnel-dwelling that the Hobbits retained in their later structures.
The Hobbits had a distinct calendar, every year started on a Saturday and ended on a Friday, with each of the twelve months consisting of thirty days. Some special days did not belong to any month- Yule 1 and 2 (New Years Eve & New Years Day) and three Lithedays in mid summer. Every fourth year there was an extra Litheday, most likely as an adaptation to ensure that the calendar stayed accurate. wiki
Things could be worse.
My photo is of a hobbit community on Lake Pond d' Oreille, clustered together for socializing, and for warmth in winter.
After farming a few days a month in summer, in the evenings they fish from the porches of their little lake houses, and smoke their pipes. Not a real estate 'for sale' sign in sight.

In Hobbitland they are very proud of their geneologies, somewhat like the Mormons, and never would think of hiding anything, goodness that wouldn't be right. Further they have their family trees prominently displayed over their fireplaces, unlike some folks we know.

Go back over the closing chapters of The Lord of the Rings, Bob. Their swords came in quite handy. They kind of established their own 2nd Amendment rights in the Shire when they returned home and found the usurpers making a mess of things. What's wrong with going around half naked? I've always thought that was the reason to own 5 acres of pines, oaks and manzanita.
The struggle is not over, for Team Obama, that is why the campaign is not over, why the volunteers are out knocking on doors.

MY PAPA'S WALTZ
ReplyDeleteThe whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death;
Such waltzing was not easy.
We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother's countenance
Could not unfrown itself.
The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle.
You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.
