The mother and brother of a 14-year-old Afghan rape victim face charges after they cut her open and removed her foetus without anaesthetic, it has been reported.

The girl is critically ill in hospital after her family sewn the girl up themselves and said she had been bitten by a dog to cover their crime.
A man accused of raping the girl, from the central Afghan province of Bamiyan, is under arrest.
The rural family apparently decided to perform an abortion when the girl was five months pregnant to protect the family's honour.
Rape victims face extreme social stigma, imprisonment and abandonment or murder by their own families in Afghanistan.
Dr Ghulam Mohammad Nader, head of Bamiyan hospital, told the BBC that the girl had been able to explain what had happened but was in a critical condition with infected wounds. She is now being treated in the capital Kabul.
"The girl stayed at home for three or four days in her condition until her father took her to hospital," he said.
"He said a dog had bitten her so that people in the area wouldn't know what had really happened."
Habiba Sarabi, governor of the province, said the girl had been bound and taken to a stables for the abortion. Police are now trying to arrest her family.

The Penny Drops
So we’re told that Mary [Tyler Moore] "can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile." But that’s not at all the same thing necessarily as taking a nothing day and suddenly making it really be worthwhile.
I can’t believe it took me so long to realize this.
(Mark my word, historians will take the view that the Seventies in their entirety had but one redeeming feature: The CBS Saturday night lineup. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Bob Newhart Show" and "The Carol Burnett Show." Everything else was pretty much in the shitter until February 22, 1980.)
(That's when we all started wearing Blackwatch kilts and carrying reversible Bermuda bags and misappropriating Bruce Springsteen. The end of the Cold War shortly followed. Strategists, take note.)

ReplyDeleteHenry Waxman, D- Hollywood (love that last name for a Congressman) is of the opinion we are not spending enough. We need to do more, lest we repeat the error of Roosevelt, and not spend enough. We need to open the floodgates of spending. That was Roosevelt's big mistake, not spending enough, to drag them out of the depression then. We can't recommit this mistake.
I suppose if we don't take this spending as far as Waxman wants it will take another world war to fix things up:(
Waxman won some poll for the ugliest son of a bitch in Congress, he needs a Hollywood makeover. They could get him looking like John Edwards, it's a tragedy they don't. But now I'm sounding like MLD, going personal.

The "Globe" reports that Bush is boozing again. The "Globe", the only paper at Walmart that carried the Obama birth story on the cover. That must mean it is a reputable reportage source. I mean, it is sold at Walmart after all.
