Is the Debate Climate Changing?

“Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.” - Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.
As much as they would like to claim that it is, the climate change debate is far from settled and there is a glimmer of hope that we will not follow the world's lemmings off the carbon cliffs.
The number of scientists willing to speak out against the Climate Change cult is growing.
U. S. Senate Minority Report: More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims Scientists Continue to Debunk “Consensus” in 2008

INTRODUCTION:

Over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. This new 231-page U.S. Senate Minority Report report -- updated from 2007’s groundbreaking report of over 400 scientists who voiced skepticism about the so-called global warming “consensus” -- features the skeptical voices of over 650 prominent international scientists, including many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN IPCC. This updated report includes an additional 250 (and growing) scientists and climate researchers since the initial release in December 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.

The chorus of skeptical scientific voices grow louder in 2008 as a steady stream of peerreviewed studies, analyses, real world data and inconvenient developments challenged the UN and former Vice President Al Gore's claims that the "science is settled" and there is a "consensus." On a range of issues, 2008 proved to be challenging for the promoters of man-made climate fears. Promoters of anthropogenic warming fears endured the following: Global temperatures failing to warm; Peer-reviwed studies predicting a continued lack of warming; a failed attempt to revive the discredited “Hockey Stick”; inconvenient developments and studies regarding CO2; the Sun; Clouds; Antarctica; the Arctic; Greenland; Mount Kilimanjaro; Hurricanes; Extreme Storms; Floods; Ocean Acidification; Polar Bears; lack of atmosphieric dust; the failure of oceans to warm and rise as predicted.

In addition, the following developments further secured 2008 as the year the “consensus” collapsed. Russian scientists “rejected the very idea that carbon dioxide may be responsible for global warming”. An American Physical Society editor conceded that a “considerable presence” of scientific skeptics exist. An International team of scientists countered the UN IPCC, declaring: “Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate”.

India Issued a report challenging global warming fears. International Scientists demanded the UN IPCC “be called to account and cease its deceptive practices,” and a canvass of more than 51,000 Canadian scientists revealed 68% disagree that global warming science is “settled.”

This new report issued by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee's office of the GOP Ranking Member is the latest evidence of the growing groundswell of scientific opposition challenging significant aspects of the claims of the UN IPCC and Al Gore. Many scientific meetings are now being dominated by a growing number of skeptical scientists. The prestigious International Geological Congress, dubbed the geologists' equivalent of the Olympic Games, was held in Norway in August 2008 and prominently featured the voices of scientists skeptical of man-made global warming fears. Skeptical scientists overwhelm conference: '2/3 of presenters and question-askers were hostile to, even dismissive of, the UN IPCC' ] Even the mainstream media has begun to take notice of the expanding number of scientists serving as “consensus busters.” A November 25, 2008 article in Politico noted that a “growing accumulation” of science is challenging warming fears, and added that the “science behind global warming may still be too shaky to warrant cap-and-trade legislation.” Canada’s Financial Post noted on October 20, 2008, that “the number of climate change skeptics is growing rapidly.” New York Times environmental reporter Andrew Revkin noted on March 6, 2008, "As we all know, climate science is not a numbers game (there are heaps of signed statements by folks with advanced degrees on all sides of this issue)," Revkin wrote. In 2007, Washington Post Staff Writer Juliet Eilperin conceded the obvious, writing that climate skeptics "appear to be expanding rather than shrinking."

Skeptical scientists are gaining recogniction despite what many say is a bias against them in parts of the scientific community and are facing significant funding disadvantages. Dr. William M. Briggs, a climate statistician who serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee, explained that his colleagues described “absolute horror stories of what happened to them when they tried getting papers published that explored non-‘consensus’ views.” Briggs, in a March 4, 2008, report, described the behavior as “really outrageous and unethical behavior on the parts of some editors. I was shocked.” (LINK) [Note: An August 2007 report detailed how proponents of man-made global warming fears enjoy a monumental funding advantage over skeptical scientists. LINK and a July 2007 Senate report detailing how skeptical scientists have faced threats and intimidation]

Highlights of the Updated 2008 Senate Minority Report featuring over 650 international scientists dissenting from man-made climate fears:

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical. “The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC 4 Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“So far, real measurements give no ground for concern about a catastrophic future warming.” - Scientist Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, a chemical engineer at Abo Akademi University in Finland, author of 200 scientific publications and former Greenpeace member.

“Anyone who claims that the debate is over and the conclusions are firm has a fundamentally unscientific approach to one of the most momentous issues of our time.” - Solar physicist Dr. Pal Brekke, senior advisor to the Norwegian Space Centre in Oslo. Brekke has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles on the sun and solar interaction with the Earth.

“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC "are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico “It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri's asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it's hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

“The Kyoto theorists have put the cart before the horse. It is global warming that triggers higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, not the other way round…A large number of critical documents submitted at the 1995 U.N. conference in Madrid vanished without a trace. As a result, the discussion was one-sided and heavily biased, and the U.N. declared global warming to be scientific fact,” Andrei Kapitsa, a Russian geographer and Antarctic ice core researcher.

“Nature's regulatory instrument is water vapor: more carbon dioxide leads to less moisture in the air, keeping the overall GHG content in accord with the necessary balance conditions.” – Prominent Hungarian Physicist and environmental researcher Dr. Miklós Zágoni reversed his view of man-made warming and is now a skeptic. Zágoni was once Hungary’s most outspoken supporter of the Kyoto Protocol.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?" - Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

“Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.” - Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, who reversed his belief in man-made warming to become a skeptic, is a former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee.

“The quantity of CO2 we produce is insignificant in terms of the natural circulation between air, water and soil... I am doing a detailed assessment of the UN IPCC reports and the Summaries for Policy Makers, identifying the way in which the Summaries have distorted the science.” - South Afican Nuclear Physicist and Chemical Engineer Dr. Philip Lloyd, a UN IPCC co-coordinating lead author who has authored over 150 refereed publications.

“Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.” Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.

“All those urging action to curb global warming need to take off the blinkers and give some thought to what we should do if we are facing global cooling instead” Geophysicist Dr. Phil Chapman, an astronautical engineer and former NASA astronaut, served as staff physicist at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

“Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense…The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” - Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.

“CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.” - Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.

  1. It's all about the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, gents. Right at the end of the last cooling phase, the news magazines were scaring people about a coming ice age.

Speaking of that, Seattle is socked in under first snow with some cold air from Canuckistan parked over us for the next week.

  4. Leo Donofrio isn't optimistic about his chances tomorrow.

All good Libertarians like Leo should be really saddened by this, if that's how it turns out, as his case is very logical and strongly argued.

In give and take with some of his posters he says---

[Ed. Come Monday, there is no Constitution. There is no "Supreme" Court, just a court. And it doesn't appeare honorable to me anymore. And it never will be as long as that clerk has a job.]

[Ed. The case will be denied. I don't think they ever wanted anything to do with it. Look what they allowed the clerk's office to do to my case and Cort's, flagging Cort's for anthrax and everything else they did to stop it from reaching the justices. Bickell must have been operating under orders from higher up the food chain. The fact that he still has a job there is frightening.

Bickell has protection but the Constitution does not.

On Monday, the United States will wake up with no Constitution. It's all over for this Country as a Constitutional Republic. It's done as done can be. My case was strong, and Cort's case was virtually air tight. But factions of the Court didn't want these cases before them because now they didn't want the burden of history on them. Now they have no excuse.

[Ed The cases are not linked and I haven't read Berg's motion. I have no idea what will happen. Both Cort and I made the nbc issue number 1, but both of us plead in the alternative as well as to the SOS checking BC etc. I had to plead that point to cover all bases, but I don't believe it will lead to anything but a a solid BC for Obama. Berg and others like in the Keys case only plead as to the BC issue. I'm happy that Cort's case and my case took a broader approach, but I don't think any of these cases are going anywhere.]

The natural born citizen issue was squarely before them. All of the resulting damage and the blood of the Constitution is on their hands forever.

Cort's case will be denied on Monday. And that will signal the very end of the nation's unique Document.]

  10. Wind plants outpace coal

    by Ryan Randazzo -
    Dec. 14, 2008 12:00 AM
    The Arizona Republic

The environmental communications company Resource Media announced last week that more coal plants in the U.S. have been canceled this year than completed, and more wind-energy capacity came online than coal power.

According to the group, 13 coal plants valued at $19.2 billion were canceled this year, while the wind industry reports it is on pace to break a record for the amount of capacity installed in a year.

Resource Media reports just three U.S. coal plants coming online in 2008, capable of generating 820 megawatts of electricity. The American Wind Energy Association reports more wind power than that came online in the third quarter alone, and developers have stuck more than 4,200 megawatts worth of wind turbines in U.S. soil since January.

Next year might not shape up much better for the coal industry, but at least one coal generator is expected to fire up.

Salt River Project intends to spark Unit 4 at the Springerville Generating Station on oil in September, and eventually shift to coal and begin making steam by the middle of that month, according to Dave Areghini, associate general manager of power, construction and engineering at the utility, who updated the board of directors earlier this month.

Tucson Electric Power Co. runs the Springerville plant and takes the power from the first two units, while another utility has dibs on Unit 3. The new unit serving SRP will be capable of generating 400 megawatts of energy, about half the U.S. coal power installed in 2008 and enough to serve 100,000 homes at once.

SRP is balancing out the wind-coal equation though because the utility not only is buying wind energy from out-of-state wind farms but also plans on buying the power from Arizona's first commercial wind plant, a 63-megawatt facility near Snowflake scheduled to be running by late next year.

  17. Most states have laws that say the electors are chosen by the popular vote in the general election, but there's nothing in the Constitution that says they have to.

Initially, most states had their state legislature choose electors.

When the legal battle over the 2000 presidential election reached the U.S. Supreme Court, the justices made clear there is no Constitutional right to vote for president, unless a state has specifically passed a law tying its popular vote to its slate of electors.

  18. The report in todays paper was that in Idaho the reintroduced wolves had killed about 350 head of cattle and horses. More cattle than horses.

Earlier this year, the Idaho Fish and Game had scheduled a wolf hunt to prune the numbers down a bit, but a Federal Court nixed the idea.

No word on how many elk they have killed, but I know it is massive.

The wolves are taking over. Exploding. As we old timers knew they would. The elk population is taking it in the shorts.

The farmers and ranchers have to apply for compensation from the government for their loses. I think they have a right to shoot the wolves, if they can 'catch them in the act'.

  21. Australia fast-tracks renewable energy funding

    Posted Sun Dec 14, 2008 3:19pm PST

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australia will bring forward millions of dollars in funding for solar and other renewable energy sources, in part to help boost the economy, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Sunday.

Rudd said the government's 500 million dollar (329 million US) renewable energy fund will now be spent over the next 18 months rather than spread over six years as previously planned.

"It's time for Australia to begin the solar revolution, a renewable energy revolution and we have got to fund it for the future" he told reporters in his home state of Queensland.

"It's good for jobs, it's good for stimulus, it's good for acting on climate change."

The Australian government is due to reveal Monday its targets for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions blamed for global warming.

Environmental groups have argued that the government must ensure carbon pollution is slashed by 25 percent by 2020 but industry and business groups have contended that this will be too high.

    Frost inside the tent....

    Global warming my ass....

    2nd thought?

Hamas drew hundreds of thousands in gaza celebrating their takeover of the strip and also showing a skit of a "fake" israeli begging for freedom...

    How touching...

at the same time the Fatah leader basically states, jews are no welcome in any way shape or form on the west bank...

Which leads me to the following thoughts...

    1. If Jews are to be legally excluded from living in the west bank (a place that the word "jew" was invented, does this give Israel the right to throw out all arabs from lands inside of their borders? If not, why not?

    2. If hamas is the evil shits that i do believe they are and they stated that their fake truce was to end on friday, would there be anything wrong with a liquid fuel air explosion over such a military event as staged today in the strip?

and would this not actually lead to peace with the arabs if several hundred thousand jihadists screaming for the deaths of the jews were they themselves turned into ash?

To me it's quite a world when the arab occupiers of the middle east, squat on 649/650th of the middle east, erasing any evidence of jewish living of the last 3000 years (long before arabs stopped humping camels in arabia to crawl out of there in 640 ce it occupy their digs) demand that the west bank be ethnically cleansed of all jews when inside of "south african styled" Israel, 27% of the population is arab and moslem, (who can vote, own lands & businesses, serve in the Israeli "congress", sit on the Supreme Court et al..)

Maybe it's time for the fake national goals of the so called "palestinians" (btw there is no P in arabic) to GET their asses kicked?

    So dear hamas...

Let the cease fire end.. after all you have shot over 200 rockets in the last 10 days alone (2600 in the last 10 months of your so called bullshit cease fire)

Maybe this time some clusterbombs up your puckered, death cult loving ass would do you some good...

PM offers pact to stop Pakistan exporting terror

    Gaby Hinsliff in Islamabad
The Guardian, Monday 15 December 2008

Gordon Brown confronted Pakistan yesterday on its record of exporting terrorism, disclosing that three quarters of serious plots investigated in the UK were connected to the country.

The prime minister arrived in Islamabad to announce that British police want to interview the surviving suspect in the Mumbai terror attacks as part of broader inquiries into the extremist group blamed for the atrocity, Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In private talks, he also questioned Pakistan's president, Ali Asif Zardari, over what action could be taken to eradicate training camps in Pakistan through which potential British suicide bombers have passed. Brown offered British assistance in tracing and shutting them down.

"Three quarters of the most serious plots investigated by the British authorities have links to al-Qaida in Pakistan. Our aim must be to work together to do everything in our power to cut off terrorism," the prime minister told a press conference in Islamabad.
