Illegals light border fires to sidetrack U.S. agents

U.S. Border Patrol agents seeking to secure the nation's border in some of the country's most pristine national forests are being targeted by illegal aliens, who are using intentionally set fires to burn agents out of observation posts and patrol routes.
The wildfires have destroyed valuable natural and cultural resources in the National Forest System and pose an ongoing threat to visitors, residents and responding firefighters, according to federal law-enforcement authorities and others.
In the Coronado National Forest in Arizona, with 60 miles of land along the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Forest Service firefighters sent in to battle fires or clear wild-land fire areas are required to be escorted by armed law-enforcement officers.
Armed smugglers of aliens and drugs have walked through the middle of active firefighting operations, the authorities said.

Does this mean the first dude who loses his house and family to a fire set by illegals can sue the government for failing to build the fence congress funded and Bush signed? At some point the environmental negatives alone are going to outweigh in the minds of the voters whatever propaganda is aired by the open borders crowd. A lot of people are moving from the rust belt and the northeast to the sun belt. When their property values start to go to shi'ite maybe homeowners there will vote for change.

ReplyDeleteA patroled fence would stop the majority of the migration. Especially if after the migration slowed to a trickle, the US developed a guest worker program.
Without the fence, there will be no benefit to jumping through the hoops that legal entry requires.
Ask the Israelis if fences work.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that the patrols are what would make the difference as opposed to the fence. Patrolling that border would require quite a lot of man power and budget would it not?

Structure
Most of the barrier (over 95% of total length) consists of a "multi-layered fence system" [25] ideally 50 m in width. Panama demands investments of a minimum of $40,000 USD for a residency visa, leading to citizenship.
Costa Rica, a $100,000 fee.
The US contemplates a $5,000 penalty to those currently here.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army is considering whether it would have to extend the combat tours of troops in Iraq if President Bush opts to maintain a recent build up of forces through spring 2008.
Acting Army Secretary Pete Geren testified Tuesday that the service is reviewing other options, including relying more heavily on Army reservists or Navy and Air Force personnel, so as not to put more pressure on an already thinly stretched active-duty force.
Most soldiers spend 15 months in combat with a guaranteed 12 months home, a rotation plan that already has infuriated Democrats because it exceeds the service's goal of giving troops equal time home as in combat. In coming weeks, the Senate will vote on a proposal by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., that would restrict deployments.
"It's too early to look into the next year, but for the Army we have to begin to plan," Geren told the Senate Armed Services Committee. "We have to look into our options."
