US Sunnis "Dominated by Extremists"

Stephen Schwartz, the Executive Director of the Center for Islamic Pluralism, writing at Tech Central Station about his organizaton's efforts to combat Islamists:
But we also must deal with serious challenges inside the Western Muslim community. First, U.S. and UK Sunni Muslims are completely dominated by extremists - Saudi-backed Wahhabis in the first case and Pakistani-controlled jihadists in the second. Canada, which I recently visited for a series of lectures, represents an important exception to this pattern, as discussed here.
His words; "US and UK Sunni Muslims are completely dominated by extremists."

So says a moderate Muslim who ought to know.

I wonder what efforts are being made by the FBI. Most of the public has no idea what is being preached in the Mosques of America and are dependant on the FBI as the front line of defense against terror in this country, homegrown, al-Qaeda affiliate or otherwise. Regardless, there will be political hell to pay when terror breaks out in the United States. It will be very hard for any politician to deliver the RoP mantra while the radical Imams are preaching otherwise.

Also interesting in the Schwartz piece is this:

Third, while a great number of Shia Muslims in the U.S. and Canada, with their clerics and mosques, are less orthodox in their attitudes, and sympathize with CIP against Saudi-backed Sunni terror, they are often tainted by an attraction to Iran and Hezbollah, which makes it impossible for us to sustain a cooperative effort with them. We maintain formal relations with Iraqi Shia leaders out of concern for the situation in their country, where U.S.-led coalition troops are present in the front lines for freedom. If we enlisted all the Shias on this side of the Atlantic who express warmth toward us, CIP might quickly become one of the largest Muslim organizations in North America. But before such a development can take place, Hezbollah must be curbed in Lebanon and Ahmadinejad removed from power in Teheran - the latter as a first step toward complete dismantling of the Iranian clerical regime.

If Hezbollah must be "curbed" and Ahmadinejad removed from power first, I guess it will be quite some time before the moderate CIP becomes one of the "largest Muslim organizations in North America." In the meantime, what are the implications of the continued "extremist domination?"

  2. The White House web site has these quotes of Mr Bush's to explain to the American people and the world at large just how the US operates, vis a vie Islam. Check it out for yourselves. He leaves no wiggle room for equivication.

We gotta follow his lead, or be called unpatriotic leftists, or is it brown shirted fascist vigilantes? Well, one or the other, matters little, really, the label applied.

    Israel Threatened in North, South

    by Hillel Fendel

(IsraelNN.com) Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Tzvika Fogel, in the clearest warning yet of his long-running series of such warnings, says that though Israel chooses to ignore it, war can be expected in Gaza by this summer - and possibly within a month.

Fogel, a former chief of staff for the Southern Command, spoke this morning on Channel Ten television. He warned of two scenarios. One is that Israel will "continue its ostrich-like stance" until military/terrorist forces in Gaza surprise-attack Israel. A second alternative, if this does not happen by the summer, is that Israel will have no choice but to begin a full-scale offensive against the increasingly-strengthened Hamas-Fatah military capacity.

Gen. Fogel noted, as he and others have done many times in the past, the wide-scale smuggling network into Gaza that has been developed since Israel quit Gaza during the Disengagement in 2005. "During this period, the Palestinians have brought in anything they wanted through the tunnels they dug," he said, "and Hamas has built up its army in this time in preparation for the conflict with Israel."
Yet Israel does nothing, and would rather deal with prisoner exchanges and reinforcing communities

The repeated PA declarations of insistence on the full "right of return" for millions of Arabs to Israel, together with PA war readiness, were also cited by Fogel as indications that war appears close.

He had strong criticism of official Israel: "In the face of this Palestinian threat, Israel chooses to reinforce [its buildings], to close its eyes and hide it head in the sand... Ever since the ceasefire with Abu Mazen went into effect some four months ago, about 200 Kassam rockets have been fired from Gaza - almost two a day. Yet Israel does nothing, and would rather deal with prisoner exchanges and reinforcing communities."

    Hizbullah, Too
On Israel's northern border, a high-ranking Hizbullah official says there is a possibility of war with Israel this summer. Hizbullah's Deputy Secretary-General Naim Kassam told The Guardian of London that the U.S. is "pushing Israel towards a violent clash."

  8. Bill Roggio is in Israel, now, so expect some news in the coming days from that front. He says he is busier than he expected.

It is interesting that while the rest of the world is beset by grand conspiracies, the US remains home to the "Lone Gunman" usually classified as "insane".

Whatever happened to the story of the Salt Lake City mall shooter? No follow up stories, like Colubine had, to tell US of the demons in the shooters head. Just fell off the earth, that story.

Between the years of 1992 and 1996, a gang of white separatists who called themselves the Aryan Republican Army robbed banks throughout the Midwest and stole nearly $500,000 before being caught. Rumors have persisted that the ARA was tied to McVeigh.

“The Midwest bank robbers of course are somebody that should be looked at. Terrorists historically finance their operations through bank robbery, armored car robbery,” Coulson said. “Coincidences just aren't coincidences, there's some reason for it.”

Peter Langan, one of the gang’s leaders who is serving a life sentence for his role in the robberies, told FOX News in an exclusive interview that some of the Midwest bank robbers were involved in the Oklahoma City bombing.

“Yes I do [believe members of the Aryan Republican Army were involved],” Langan said. “No doubt whatsoever.”

McVeigh's sister, Jennifer, in her own sworn deposition said: "My brother remarked that the money he had in his possession represented his share of the bank robbery proceeds."
    ...
Repeated calls were made from Terry Nichols' home to a place called Star Glad Lumber in the Philippines.

“Star Glad Lumber is operated by a man whose brother and cousin were both notorious terrorists, splinter groups of the Abu Sayyaf terror group in the Philippines,” according to Johnston, the attorney.

Nichols also repeatedly called a boarding house in Cebu City, an establishment that has been linked to 1993 World Trade Center bombing mastermind Ramzi Yousef (search). The same kind of ANFO fertilizer fuel bomb was used in New York and in Oklahoma City.

Finally, in McVeigh's trial the prosecution alleged that the bombing was financed by a robbery of an Arkansas gun dealer named Roger Moore. But Langan doesn't agree.

"Moore had himself robbed ... so he could put firearms in the black market without having liability himself," Langan said.

Asked if he believed Moore was not a victim, but part of the scam, Langan told FOX News: "Correct."

FOX News' Rita Cosby, Clay Rawson and Peter Russo contributed to this report.

  9. DR, RE: Salt Lake City

I dont think LDS tolerates bad press these days, particularly after the Eliz Smart deal. They probably ran MSM out of town...

btw, re: VT shooting, there's a guy on Headline News explaining the difference between a .45 and 9mm...He says one is bigger than the other!
