Iran under scrutiny. France says sanctions coming.
French RTL Radio reports:
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said Wednesday that there will be sanctions against Iran for its refusal to halt its nuclear enrichment programme.
"The question remains over the extent of the sanctions, but there will be sanctions," according to Article 41 of Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, Douste-Blazy told RTL radio after a closed-door meeting on Tuesday of six nations in Paris failed to produce agreement on the issue.
Diplomats had hoped that the meeting would finally produce an accord among the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany on what action to take against Tehran.
However, Douste-Blazy noted that progress had been made and "agreement had been found on one thing, that there will be a resolution at the UN Security Council in a united manner, including China and Russia."
It is hard to fathom sanctions that do justice to the word that have the backing of France, Russia, and China rearding the Iranian nuclear program.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a unmonitored "house arrest" allowing the Iranians all the time they need to complete their nuclear ambitions.
Will the US veto a weak sanction package?
Early reports on the Iraq Study Group report due to the President today are that it will contain recommendations to "put teeth" in Iraq concliance with US efforts to speed their full independence.
ReplyDeleteWe await the report.

ReplyDeleteBush should signal that Iran is a low priority for the US since by the time Iran's nuclear missiles reach farther than the capitals of Europe America will have a robust missile shield for herself and her friends. Then see what happens.
WC..another great point.
ReplyDeleteI guess my mind is hard wired to be on the offensive. In fact there is good group of people roam'n the globe that'll swear I'm offensive!

The Russian nuclear proliferation has already been taken off the Iranian Sanctions propsal.
ReplyDeleteThe idea that the "World" would sanction Iran for it's nuclear program as the Russians are expanding it is oximoronic.
